You laid back down on your back, on the bed and the doctor lay beside you, you were both looking up at the ceiling.

"Well that's a boring ceiling, can't we have something interesting to look at?" the doctor said.

You realised she was talking to the Tardis.

Suddenly the beautiful night sky appeared above you, deep purples and blues swirled around, and the sky was full of stars, shining brightly.

"Now that is what you call a ceiling" the doctor grinned, "ohh, I can see some constellations, look, there's Orion and Ursa Major!" she pointed excitedly.

You couldn't help but smile, the sky looked stunning and the doctor showed the excitement of a young child.

"I think of them when I look at the stars" you said quietly. "My mum and Alf, twinkling away up there".

"(y/n), they are two of the brightest most beautiful stars that shine in the sky" she said holding your hand.

"I always relive that day in my dreams, and when I wake up, I'm always reminded that it's not just a dream, it happened and it's my reality."

"I just feel so alone in the world without them and I miss them terribly" you couldn't hold back the tears now and they began to stream down your face.

"Hey, hey, It's ok" the doctor gently wiped away your tears, you snuggled into her side without thinking and rested your head on her shoulder. She gently stroked your forehead and played with your hair, comforting you.

"You may feel alone, but I can reassure you, there's people who care about you, and no one's ever truly gone, they stay with you in many different ways".

"I've never really had anyone care since I lost them. I could never settle anywhere, I moved from family to family, some were nicer than others... I've been hurt physically and emotionally, constantly made to feel unwanted, and have never fitted in anywhere".

The doctor was looking at you with her eyes full of concern and empathy.

"Who hurt you?" she began to question but you cut her off.

"I really don't want to talk about that right now, I don't fancy another nightmare" you placed a hand on your forehead, "I've said to much" you sighed.

"No, you haven't, it's really good to talk, don't bottle things up, you're doing amazing" she smiled.

"I don't even know how I'm saying these things to you..".

"It's because I care (y/n), I care about you, so does Yaz, Graham and Ryan, we haven't known each other long but you're part of the fam now. My Fam, Team Tardis" she grinned scrunching her face up slightly.

You couldn't help but feel your heart lift slightly, it was nice to hear someone tell you that they cared and that you were part of something.

"Doc, have you ever lost anyone?" you asked.

"I'm over two thousand years old... I have lost many, many, good people" she said with sadness in her eyes. "unfortunately, as much as I want to, I can't save everyone. Life is like a story, you live and tell your own, leaving footprints everywhere you go, and then those footprints and memories you make, you leave in others hearts. Always make it a good one".

"That's beautiful" you whispered, "And I'm sorry for all the stories that have ended for you Doctor".

She gave you a sad smile.

"And Doc" you said, "you're over two thousand years old! I must say looking gooood" you laughed.

The doctor giggled, "There it is again" she said shaking her head.

"I never asked you where you came from and about your family?"

The doctors eyes filled with pain and you regretted asking her the question.

"Unfortunately, You are not the only one who has lost everything to the Daleks," she sighed.

"My family are gone, I'm the last of my kind and my home is destroyed, I managed to bring it back once, only for it to be cruelly taken from me again."

"I'm so sorry" you could not even begin to imagine what she'd been through.

"I remember growing up on Gallifrey, oh, you should of seen it, that old planet. The second sun would rise in the south, and the mountains would shine. The leaves on the trees were silver, and when they caught the light every morning, it looked like a forest on fire. When the autumn came, the wind would blow through the branches like a song" her eyes lit up with memories as she spoke about it.

"It sounds beautiful" you smiled.

You both laid there looking up at the stars in a comfortable silence for a few minutes. Without thinking you shifted your head from her shoulder to lay on her chest, the sound of both her hearts beating was mesmerising.

"Doctor?"

"Yes (y/n)?"

"I hope you don't mind me asking but how do you deal with all of that, how do carry on? You have such a kind heart, even after all your loss...".

"I carry them with me, what they would of thought and said and done, made them part of who I am. So even though they are gone from the world, they're never gone from me".

"You carry your family with you to (y/n)" she added.

"Always" you said.

The doctor gently kissed the top of your head, "Right, I think you should try and get some more rest, you haven't had much sleep".

"I'll try" you said, expecting the doctor to get up.

However, she stayed where she was, staring contently at the stars. You couldn't help but realise how warm and comforting she felt. You looked up at the stars too, listening to the sound of the doctors hearts, you slowly drifted off back to sleep.
