Chapter fifty-five; Real date or false hope?

▴ ◃ ▾ ▹

Jasmine slept in a little longer into the Saturday morning. One part was because she couldn't sleep in the evening, her mind full of doubts and horrible thoughts, the second reason was that she dreaded actually waking up and going out of the dormitory. Once she would she knew it was Hogsmeade trip time and she didn't want to go. Robyn has been missing the whole time in the dorm and Jasmine didn't even have a chance to tell her that their plans for Hogsmeade had to change. She could only imagine what reaction Robyn will have when she tells her at breakfast.

Once Jasmine was finally ready to face the world it was only a little time for breakfast left. As she opened the heavy doors of The Great Hall her eyes settled on the half-empty tables and she immediately spotted the familiar group of friends sitting at the Gryffindor table. Her feet carried her to the group which included Sirius, Robyn, James, Peter, Remus and Lily. They were all talking among themselves and Lily was the first to notice Jasmine approaching. She greeted her with a smile as Jasmine sat down on the opposite side of Lily which was the only space left and it was right beside Remus.

The food on the table looked too good at that moment for Jasmine to acknowledge everyone that was present at the table. But at the same time, she was very conscious of how close she and Remus were sitting. They didn't look at one another as to not be obvious but Remus all of a sudden had a clear smile tugging at his lips. Jasmine noticed that and couldn't help but smile a little as well.

''Hey, Jass,'' Robyn called over the table. ''Can we go to Gladrags today? I have to buy something for mama's birthday.'' She said before going back to her food.

Jasmine cleared her throat as she looked from Robyn down at her plate. ''Um, actually Robyn, I forgot to tell you I– ''

''Jasmine has a date today,'' Lily interjected with a mischievous smile.

It was as though the whole group stopped working properly altogether, the plates stopped clattering, the chat stopped as well and suddenly all eyes were on the light brunette. Jasmine dropped down her fork and narrowed her eyes at Lily across from her. She also felt Remus freeze beside her as now his eyes were watching her carefully.

''What?'' Robyn let out with confusion in her voice as her eyes flickered between Lily and Jasmine who were staring each other down. Then the wheels in her brain started turning as she flickered her eyes over the rest of the group.

''Who-?'' Robyn didn't get to finish the question as out of nowhere a smile appeared on her features. She was looking at someone or something that was behind Jasmine. Then she made a face of realisation all while everyone kept looking at each other not speaking a single word.

''Aah, that's why he's looking at you all the time.'' She stated.

Lily first looked at Robyn then to where she was subtly hinting at and a smile spread on her features as well.

''Who?'' James and Sirius voiced together as Sirius straightened up to look over all students' heads and James turned around very quickly to look as well. Robyn chuckled at their behaviour.

''Try to be even more obvious guys.'' Lily deadpanned jokingly as James finally turned around though it looked like he still had no idea who they were talking about.

Jasmine didn't look well, she was irritated she had to do this she wasn't happy and she felt even worse with all the teasing the girls were doing. Remus didn't know how to feel, he was confused and sad and he wanted to be angry at Jasmine for not telling him something has been going on. But he couldn't do anything in that situation as they were under the eyes of all of their friends. He never wished more than at that moment that he could blow this whole thing up and kiss Jasmine in front of everyone so she wouldn't go out with someone else. The two of them were together but nobody knew that.
