Chapter one hundred four; Unbelievable

▴ ◃ ▾ ▹

Jasmine and Sirius snapped their heads towards the source of the voice. Remus stood there, half of his figure was illuminated by lumos that he cast with his wand. He was quite a distance away from them and once he knew he got their attention he started walking towards them with confidence in his step.

Jasmine turned to him with a guilty expression. ''Remus.''

He didn't look her way. He swished past her pocketing his wand. Then he grabbed Sirius by his upper arms and pushed him against the wall. ''What the fuck did you say?''

''Nothing!'' Sirius argued back, although his expression was clearly fearful. Neither he nor Jasmine have seen Remus so angry before and it downright scared them.

''Oh, so I heard it all wrong then?'' Remus was all up in Sirius' face, his hands gripping his arms tightly. ''You don't love her!?''

''I – I –''

''You what!?'' Remus yelled again. ''Don't try to say it it's not true because I heard it loud and clear. Now tell me this Padfoot, what were you trying to do? Hm? What were your intentions after you tell Jasmine that you so dearly love her? Were you hoping that she'll say it back? Leave me and be with you? What?!''

Sirius stuttered again. ''No! I wasn't trying anything!''

''Bullshit!''

''Please just listen to me, Moony! I won't deny what I said but I wasn't trying to do anything! I swear!''

''Remus.'' Jasmine tried to interfere.

Remus only put his hand up, silencing her, without taking one single glance her way. She clamped her mouth shut and observed the situation while more and more pain was spreading through her insides. Barely an hour ago she would have never thought something like this will happen. Remus' glare intensified as he put his attention back on Sirius.

''How could you?'' His voice turned from pure anger to a mixture of hurt and disappointment. ''You were silent this whole fucking time, observing from the sidelines and keeping it to yourself. Did you think that saying it now will help? For god's sake, my own best friend went behind my back and tried to ruin the only best thing that happened to me in my life.''

''I didn't try to ruin anything!''

''Shut up! Then why did you say it?''

''I don't know!'' Sirius wriggled in his tight grasp.

Remus finally let him free and took a couple of steps back, although he never took his eyes off of him. Sirius took a quick glance at Jasmine and they shared a helpless expression and it didn't go unnoticed by Remus.

''Unbelievable.'' He half-whispered.

He took another step back before turning in the direction he came from and stormed away. Jasmine's reactions were quick so she ran after him, not taking a second glance at Sirius.

''Remus!'' She called but his long legs were keeping him quite a lot of paces away from her. ''Remus, wait! Please!''

When he turned a corner she finally caught up to him. But not because she managed to outrun him, he just stopped abruptly dead centre in the hall. Jasmine slowed down and watched how his back rose and fell with his heavy breathing. Then just as suddenly he turned around and his face was shined upon by a source of distant light. Streaks of tears were glistening down his cheeks while his face was still contorted in anger.
