Chapter fifty-eight; The Black Lake

''Skipping class?'' The words were followed by a disapproving sigh. ''I've never seen such foul behaviour from you young lady.''

Jasmine opened her eyes with her eyebrows drawn together in confusion. She pushed against the ground and made herself sit up as a weird smile tugged at her lips. The smile became bigger when she turned her head and her eyes settled on Sirius standing not far off, with his hands in the pockets of his pants.

It was the middle of the week, the middle of a beautiful day outside. Too beautiful to be wasted in a classroom, that's what Jasmine thought. So she didn't bother to go to Charms and rather sauntered off and laid down under a tree near the Black Lake. Her smile diminished into a tight-lipped one when she saw Sirius disapprovingly shake his head time and time again.

''Speak for yourself.'' She said, motioning with her head for him to join and sit down by her side. ''If I'm not wrong you were supposed to be in that same class with me.'' She narrowed her eyes at him.

Sirius let out a chuckle and stepped over to her in a slow pace. He only answered when he already sat down beside Jasmine. ''You see, I was there. But then I saw you were missing and got so concerned about your wellbeing that I just had to find you and make sure you aren't getting hexed somewhere in the hallway.'' He spoke so passionately that one could just read through his voice that he was joking.

Jasmine shook her head and laughed. ''Liar.'' She pushed him at his shoulder making Sirius laugh as well.

They both turned their heads to the Black lake and kept quiet. An occasional rumble of waves came on the surface from the giant squid but other than that it was very peaceful for a late spring day. Nothing has changed in a while at Hogwarts. Jasmine kept on living a double life, one with her friends in front of a suddenly very quiet and reserved William and the other at night with Remus.

Like Remus said, Sirius never took offence to her words spoken in detention, he didn't even let her apologise. They understood each other differently, so they didn't even have to speak and by now it was already two months since their detention and all of it was forgotten. He often kept her company at times when the Hufflepuff prefect Devon just didn't show up for patrol. Jasmine suggested to him he should become a prefect because he's already doing all the work. Sirius scrunched up his nose at the thought and before Jasmine could say she was joking he fled through a secret passageway.

The summer holidays were inching closer and Jasmine wished nothing more than for the school year to be over and to go home. Yes, she wanted to go home, to see her mum again. Living under the same roof as her dad was better to her than having to go through exams that were all around them. Sirius took his eyes off the lake and looked at Jasmine, immediately noticing her stern expression. He softly nudged her shoulder.

''Hey, what's wrong?'' He asked with a small frown.

Jasmine blinked a couple of times and shook her head to try and clear it. She turned her head and noticed the worried expression on Sirius. ''Nothing.'' She shrugged and curled her lips into a smile only for a few seconds. ''It's just that Apparition test is tomorrow.'' She said looking down at her hands that were already fiddling with the edge of the skirt.

Sirius scrunched up his eyebrows in confusion. ''Okay, so?'' He shrugged.

He was aware of that fact, yet he had no idea why that alone was the reason that a smile wasn't on Jasmine's features. Jasmine scoffed, making her shoulders drop. Of course, even Sirius couldn't understand what the point of her mood was, he has been excellent in the Apparition class.
