Chapter seven; The invitation

The sun was just high enough in the late afternoon for it to not be bothering and it was shining a warm orange glow over the landscape. Their hair was sprawled around them the same as their skirts. Lily and Jasmine enjoyed the last bit of the unusually warm day, laying in the grass away from the Quidditch pitch and yelling players. A plate of cookies was placed in between them as well as two now empty mugs, which Jasmine successfully stole from the kitchens full with sweet tea.

Not many sounds could be heard rather than an occasional distant shout from the pitch, not even the birds were chirping. It was calm. Jasmine had her eyes closed, basking in the glow of the sun. It was written all over her content expression that she could stay like that forever and would not mind a second of it. One of her eyes then creaked open at the voice of the redhead beside her.

''Look at that.'' Lily's hand was pointing upwards at the sky.

A few of the remaining clouds formed different shapes and she was pointing to the one just above their line of view. The corners of Jasmine's lips turned upwards at the bird-like shape of the white mist above. A moment later her eyes were closed again, while her friend kept on searching for other forms at the sky.

''How are classes going?'' Lily then asked, bringing back the unwanted conversation about school. She expected Jasmine to either roll her eyes or let out a groan but the girl was surprisingly quiet.

After a moment of thought, she answered. ''They're going.''

A handful of classes were different for the girls since they only shared two of them in this term. That is why Lily had to keep her friend on track for the NEWT's. It was no wonder that Jasmine would probably drop a class or had revising through every summer so far if it wouldn't be for her friends to keep her in line. Jasmine heard a bit of a sigh escape Lily's lips and she already anticipated a more thorough question about her school work.

Though the brunette was faster at speaking. ''Lils, it's September, I'm doing fine so far, thanks to you.''

A cheeky grin appeared on her face as she turned her head sideways to look at the redhead. Lily returned her smile, satisfied with the comment she received. They both looked up at the sky again with warm feelings inside them. The sun was closing on the horizon as dinner time was coming nearer. Neither Lily nor Jasmine moved a muscle to endure the final meal of the day, both seemingly full from the half-eaten plate of cookies.

While they retrieved back to resting their eyes a shadow appeared above them. Lily was first to notice the change in scenery as it came like a silent devil in disguise. While Jasmine was still oblivious to it, Lily opened her green eyes and immediately felt the need to close them again, wishing to only imagine what she saw.

''Oh no.'' She muttered with a strained voice and sat up.

''What?'' Jasmine asked and opened her eyes as well.

To her surprise four very quiet boys were standing there, looking down at them. The brunette raised her eyebrows in question while the Marauders simply waved back at her. She then caught Lily roll her eyes in the sitting position and Jasmine raised herself up as well.

''How are you two fine ladies doing on this fine evening?'' The arrogant voice of James Potter first spoke up as every member of the group circled Jasmine and Lily, proceeding to sit down in front of them. Before either of them could answer or in Lily's case shoot a snarky remark, Sirius glanced at the plate between them and reached for it without hesitating.
