Chapter twenty-two; Chocolate covered strawberries

▴ ◃ ▾ ▹

Jasmine's stomach rumbled as her thoughts enclosed around food. She was late for dinner because she was held back by Flitwick, who wanted a serious talk about her grades in the particular class. The talk proved to be quite long and then Jasmine found herself rushing to dinner. She entered the Great Hall and quite quickly spotted Robyn at the Hufflepuff table. She rounded the table so she could sit at the empty spot in front of her best friend. Her mind was racing back and forth and yet she was oblivious to her surroundings, hunger clouding her. She sat down in front of Robyn and only then noticed another student sitting closely beside the darker brunette.

''Hello.'' Jasmine greeted her eyes side glancing to the boy who was smiling down at Robyn. Her voice held curiousness and she tilted her head sideways to Robyn, her eyes searching for answers.

Robyn who then noticed her presence, toned down her smile a bit before answering. ''Oh hey, Jasmine.'' She stole another glance to the tall student beside her and offered him a smile.

Jasmine furrowed her eyebrows straightening her back. Food was forgotten, she didn't even put anything on her plate to begin with. All her attention was captured by the looks the pair has been offering to each other. She noticed the familiar Hufflepuff tie around his neck, yet she failed to remember where she has seen those light set of curls that sat atop his head.

''Who's this?'' Jasmine asked gently her head turned to the Hufflepuff boy.

Robyn let out a set of chuckles when he whispered something in her ear. Jasmine gritted her teeth for a second, a cringe feeling creeping up her back. Robyn again distanced a bit from the boy and looked at Jasmine. The light brunette could see the girl wasn't thinking straight.

''Oh, this is...'' Words seemed to stuck in her throat as she stole another glance at him. Either she really didn't know his name or she forgot, all in all, it looked very weird to Jasmine.

The boy then freed one of his hands which was firmly gripped by Robyn and offered it across the table. ''Hi, I'm Caspar.''

Jasmine put her own hand in his and shook it firmly, while her lips were tugged in a small smile. She returned the information stating her own name, but by the looks of it, he already knew who she was. Her eyes travelled across his uniform and she spotted a badge on his jumper, which stated he was the Hufflepuff's Quidditch captain. Jasmine let out a silent sigh her eyes flickering across Robyn. Asking them what they were felt stupid since it could be clearly seen they weren't just friends.

It put a weird feeling inside Jasmine seeing her best friends herself to another one so quickly. What sparked a little surprise then was that in mere second Robyn glanced behind her shoulder to the Gryffindor table, her look somewhere far. She turned back to her own table with a frown, which quickly disappeared as Caspar initiated another conversation. Jasmine let out a puff of air and lifted her arm to check her watch. In a few moments, her eyes widened and she suddenly rose from the bench. Robyn looked at her weirdly when Jasmine already turned around with the means to leave.

''Where are you going? You haven't eaten anything.'' Her concern was evident.

''I'm late for prefect's meeting.'' Jasmine quickly dismissed her and speed-walked down the enormous room to its exit.

Outside she was met with Lily who waited for her knowing the girl's habits. The redhead didn't comment on the visible frustration of Jasmine, she merely hooked her hand and together they walked to the destination of the meeting. It was not until the prefect group was divided into pairs and slowly dispersed did Jasmine snap out of her thinking. She missed the whole thing and she missed the name of her prefect partner as well. She waited for a little but was suddenly tugged at her sleeve.
