Figuring it out

"We're already late, Spence!" Lily laughed as Spencer shrugged, smiling at the sound of her happiness.

"Exactly. So it won't make much of a difference if we stop at the coffee shop to buy ourselves some breakfast."

Stopping at a red light, Lily playfully glared at her boyfriend as he sent her some pretty damn good puppy eyes. She sighed, before starting to drive again.

"Okay. I'll stop by the coffee shop, but you better make it quick." She gave up and Spencer nodded. "Get me..."

"A tea with no cream and no sugar and one of those chocolate cookies they have." He finished as Lily raised an eyebrow at him. He shrugged. "I've brought breakfast for you enough times to know your order."

"Well, that's nice." She smiled. "I know yours too."

"Really?" He challenged as she scoffed.

"Yeah. You take black coffee with an incredibly unhealthy amount of sugar in it and, if you're hungry, you usually go for the brownie, although I have already seen you with a red velvet cupcake."

Spencer laughed, but didn't disagree. Lily found herself a spot on the end of the coffee shop's street and Spencer left the car, before coming back about twenty minutes later with both of their orders in hands. As soon as he closed the door and made sure the food was safe in his hands, Lily started racing to the FBI building.

"We're half an hour late, Spence! Hotch's going to kill us." She bit her lip as Spencer shook his head, calmly taking a sip of his coffee.

"No, he won't. Come on, Lily... When was the last time you were late? Plus... You stayed later than he did yesterday. You'll be fine."

Lily couldn't argue with that. She had stayed longer than Hotchner himself yesterday, going through files and more files as she tried to decide which one was more urgent. At nine thirty, she had decided it was enough and then drove to Spencer's house, finally getting there at ten sharp for the night in they had scheduled. Of course, being late, she didn't even think about the fact that she didn't have a change of clothes for the next day and even if they had woken up in time for work, it took Lily a few minutes to make one of Spencer's simple button-up shirts look presentable in her small frames. With a few twists and turns, it finally fit, and even if she was wearing the same skirt and shoes from the day before, turning her scarf the other way - thank God for two-sided stamped clothing - it didn't even look she was trying to hide something.

Getting out of her car and picking up her purse, Lily finally grabbed hold of her tea and, since Spencer had devoured his brownie on the five minutes trip from the coffee shop to work, he held her cookie for her.

"Thank you." She smiled, before pushing his shoulder down gently, so he would bend for her to reach his cheek for a kiss in the elevator.

But the moment her lips touched his skin, the elevator's door opened, and of course, luck wasn't on her side that day. Lily heard a dramatic gasp and she didn't even have to check to know who was standing there. Penelope Garcia, of course.

"No." She whispered, looking at Lily up and down. They were best friends. Penelope had entered her closet more than once. She knew all her clothes and preferences by heart. She knew that shirt wasn't hers. And judging by the size, it could only be... "No, it can't be. Is this what I think it is?"

"No." She said quickly, to which Penelope glared. "Yes..."

"Oh my God!"

"Penny..." Lily started gently, stepping out of the elevator. "I can explain..."

"I can't believe you did this to me!" She exclaimed as she turned around and started to walk toward the bullpen. "I feel so betrayed."

"No, no, no... Penny, please..." Lily yelled as she ran after her best friend.
