growing up sucks ass.
absolute ass.
yeah, that's right. everyone says it.
but do you know why everyone says it?
well. maybe because it's fucking true.
to those that enjoy the years of getting older, it's never the growing up that's enjoyable. instead, it's always because of the freedom.
of choice, of knowledge, of wisdom.
and since you were nowhere near that point yet, there was currently not a single thing you enjoyed about growing up.
like honestly, why can't things just stay as they always are? those wistful teenage years... oh how you'll spend the rest of your life missing them.
but, that's beside the point.
the point was not to say that growing up means tears and sadness and everything bad. (it is, but we don't have to say it.)
the real point is that growing up is truly something that nobody can control. not you, not me, not even our god (ahem. akaashi and kita are our only gods).
but maybe, if we're lucky, it'll bring times of enjoyment along the way.
that's exactly what happened to you as you toured tokyo campus with oikawa.
a small moment of happiness—of actual enjoyment, where there were no thoughts other than the present moment.
wow. i've missed tokyo so much.
more than anything.
"stop looking around with your sad eyes."
you stopped yourself from forming a smile. "i am not."
"you are too," the boy huffed. "you're giving me 'wow i missed this place so much i wish i moved here but i know i couldn't have moved here because everything nostalgic happened here and it hurts sometimes to be here but it's still so beautiful because everyone loves tokyo and i miss tokyo so so so so so so much' vibes."
you let out a laugh. "okay. accurate."
oikawa grinned. "so, stop looking so sad. you're here to visit, aren't you? c'mon, let's go to my favourite coffee store..." oikawa paused. "i have a surprise."
you raised your eyebrow, already skeptical at that one word.
oikawa groaned. "oh come on! my surprises aren't that bad! and i promise you'll love this one. pinky promise—," he held out his pinky.
yeah, no. you're still not convinced.
honestly, it wasn't the fact that oikawa was doing the surprise that made you slightly very much anxious.
it was the fact that it was a surprise.
because, if we recall, everything you once had two years ago was lost to a singular surprise.
so this time, you sure hoped it would be an actual good one.
(you don't deserve any more bad ones. truly.)
"come on," oikawa smiled. "you'll love it."
as your heart still filled with the not-so-tiny doubts, you could only sigh as you followed oikawa's footsteps through the campus grounds.
surprise he says?
then surprise it is.
