some things fall under a rare category.

a rare, once in a lifetime, category.

because that's just how it is sometimes; there are some things in life with an opportunity that appears only once—and as soon as you miss it, it's gone.

as simple as that.

generally, it's a rare chance. and it would be, for any normal person in the world.

but in your life, with your unbelievably horrendous luck, these rarities seem to happen naturally, passing you by more times than you can remember. the stakes are high, you suppose.

one chance. and if you mess it up...

it's gone.

with the end of the entire experience of virtual reality, life, as always, resumed.

you wish that it wouldn't, though.

all you wanted to do was think about your family from the other world, to give them one last hug—one last goodbye.

you'll admit that the sorrow was starting to seep away, melting into a dream. the bitterness was starting to feel normal. it still hurts, but it probably always will.

the end of an arc always meant the start of another.

you just simply wished that life would be more... peaceful. for a little bit, at least.

however, in the wonderfully distressed world of university, a peaceful life was never even an option.

so instead of having time to grieve for a world you never belonged in, you were forced to cram. cram because the end of the school year could only ever mean one thing: exam season.

and the two dreadful words were taking a toll on you, mentally, emotionally, and physically. your exams start in no less than two weeks—which is absolutely not enough time for prep. especially not for exams in pre-med.

oh, and did i mention? in total, you have seven exams. seven three-hour-long exams that carried the weight of an entire semester.

to add on top of everything else, your professors were also giving out piles of review and new assignments—just for the hell of it, really.

so to say the least, you were overwhelmed. with no time to think about anything else other than studying.

funny isn't it? the way you'd sacrifice yourself for a mere piece of paper.

you had about two and a half hours of sleep, tops. and you've been running on this same, messed up sleep schedule for over a week now.

as you drank a carton of strawberry milk, you forced your eyes to stay open. a small glance from the clock told you that it was past 1am.

and there were still piles and piles of work to finish for the day.

you probably would still be doing homework, if not for an email notification that caught your attention.
