Chapter twenty-four.

We stand there staring at the house and the motion detector lights go on. Sarah gasps and we all start crawling behind something.

"Shit!" Sarah says.

"Oh, shit!" John B says.

"Go, go, go, go." Pope says.

"Flashlights!" Kie says. We all click off our flashlights.

"It's on strobe!" JJ says.

"Flashlights." Kie says. Ky presses the button for JJ and Pope starts panting. "Shh!"

"Okay, so she has motion sensor lights." Pope says.

"We could, uh.. move really slowly, maybe?" JJ suggests.

"What?" Kie asks.

"Yeah, that's not how it works." Pope says.

"Oh, shit. Let's throw a rock at it." John B says.

"What?!" Pope asks.

"That's a really good idea actually. Let the ax murder know that we're here." Kie says sarcastically.

"Throw a rock at it?" Pope asked. "Come on."

"You guys have a better idea?" John B asks.

"Literally anything but that." Kie says.

"We can throw rocks. Don't.. no.. no. Just shut your mouths for a second. Close it, Kie. Pope, I can literally hear your mouth being open. Just hear me out. Not at the sensor, but in different directions around the yard to see where the sensor can detect it and where it can't." I say. Pope whispers something in Ky's ear.

"Pope wants me to tell you that you're a stupid bitch." Ky says.

"That is not what I said." Pope says.

"What about the breaker? In the circuit box on the porch. We used to play hide and seek here as kids. And if we were brave enough, we'd go all the way up to the porch." Sarah said. "I've seen it."

"No, no. You're not going in the house alone." John B says.

"Watch me." Sarah says.

"Crain chops people into pieces." JJ says.

"If you believe that, but she's like what, 85?" Sarah asks.

"Yeah, something like that." JJ says.

"She's probably barely still kicking." Sarah says.

"I'll go with her." I said. "I mean I ran around the place alone once already."

"No, dumb and dumber, definitely not." John B says.

"Hey." Sarah says.

"Me and Ky can go, too." Kie says.

"That's too many." John B says.

"Then, we'll spread out a little. Make sure that if she gets one of us the next will be close enough to tell, but far enough to not get hit herself." Ky says.

"I don't know." Pope says.

"Or we can stick all the dumbasses together and the rest of us can go in." Ky says.

"I think we should let the girls handle the lights." JJ says.

"Okay, we'll wait for your signal." Pope says.

"Okay. Cool." Kie says. Sarah and Kie get up.

"Hey, be safe." John B says.

"We will." Sarah says and they start walking. JJ turns Pope's face towards him.
