Novalie:

"Okay I can do this. I can do this." I whispered as I paced back and forth in front of the large house. Claire was at school so I took advantage, saving her location from last night and Ubering here. The house was huge, everything I expected it to be considering she was loaded.

I wanted Sage to come with me but she said it's best if she didn't. I had asked her if she thought it was too early since we've only been together for a short time and she said no, looking me in the eye and telling me I was the only one she sees herself with for a very long time before explaining that it's a private matter. She didn't want me to feel limited with her being there.

'Besides, we started as friends first. Does that not count?'

I knocked on the door and swallowed hard, hearing heavy footsteps travel and the door swung open, an older woman smiling as she looked confused.

"Are you here for a meeting?"

"No, Paz. She's here to see me." I heard my mothers voice echo from inside of the house. I looked over the woman's shoulder and saw my mother walk over with a soft smile on her face. I couldn't help but stare for a second considering she was and always has been beautiful. Her hair was styled in curls that sat above her shoulders, her face light with makeup.

It made me feel insecure. I looked nothing like her, but Claire did, and got her personality too.

"Novalie. It's really great to see you, though unexpected. I was just about to step out." She grinned her perfect grin and I cleared my throat before looking away.

"Hi Victoria. I just..I wanted to speak briefly while Claire was at school."

"Yes, come in. Are you hungry?"

"No. No thanks." I breathed as I walked inside of the large house. It smelt like cleaning products and potpourri. I followed her across the house and toward an office space that had a couch and a table in the center.

"Please take a seat. I'm so glad that you want to talk Novalie. You did really well with Claire. She's very sweet and has great manners-"

"I did your job. Don't try and patronize me." I responded grimly causing her to swallow hard as she nodded.

"Well deserved-"

"Among other things."

"Well..you have every right to be angry. You really do and I want to do everything in my power to make up for it."

"The sad thing is Victoria, you can't. You left me to raise my sister while you built yourself a simulation. I don't think you understand the things I had to go through to make sure she was okay. You don't know what we've been through while you played housewife-"

"And I'm sorry."

"No. You're not. I'm sorry, I don't know why I came here. I can't do this." I hissed as I stood up, but she pulled me back, pulling me into her arms and held me despite me fighting her off.

"Get off of me!" I yelled but she just held me, and I finally broke, crying into her chest as she cried with me.

"I hate you so much. I hate you, I wish you never came back." I sobbed as she continued to hold me tightly in her arms.

"I'm so sorry Novalie. I am so sorry." She cried but I shook my head while pushing her off of me.

"Let me make something clear. You want to build a family on top of your new one? Fine. But leave me out of it. You already have Claire sucked in so do me a favor and don't hurt her or disappoint her. It's too late for me and you know that. You knew that there's nothing you can do for me like you can for Claire which is why you showed up on her birthday. You knew she would fall to her knees if she saw you. And now she has mommy and daddy and her new sisters. You hurt her? You figure it out. I'm done putting myself last. Everyone seems to do that except for one person.

So you make a mess? Make sure you clean it up. I'm sure she had a blast last night, but don't expect it to keep happening until you know for sure you won't just fùcking disappear again." I hissed before walking out of the room. I found the entrance and left, the tears streaming down my face as I ignored her calling my name.

"Please tell me what I can do for you to forgive me. I'm so sorry, even if it's a trust fund I can-"

"You think I want your money?!" I scoffed loudly as I turned around and looked at her as if she was insane. I laughed and she stepped forward but I stepped back while shaking my head.

"You think money will do it? I've done more than enough for money because you left your children with NOTHING! And now since you have everything, you think you can just bribe me? No, mother. I don't want your fucking money. What I want is something that you took from me a very long time ago. I don't know why I tried this. Bye."

"Novalie please-"

"Mommy, who's that?"

We both looked toward the door and I saw the young girl as she stared at both of us in confusion. She looked more like Claire in person and it made my heart beat rapidly in my chest. Her hair was done to perfection, her small dress matching the outfit that Victoria had on.

"Go tend to your daughter. I'm sure she needs it." I scoffed before walking away swiftly. I felt sick to my stomach as I stormed down the pavement. I kept walking, not realizing that some time has passed since I left her house. I wasn't sure where I was, but the walk calmed me down. She lived in a different neighborhood, and it was full of well kept landscapes and healthy trees. It was calming, but it also made me wonder what life would have been like if we were to have lived this life?

Then Sage's mind filled my thoughts. I couldn't help but smile sadly at the realization that if life didn't take its course, I would've never met Sage. I pulled out my phone and sent her a text despite me knowing that she was in the middle of a class. I wanted her to know that I was thinking about her even through all of this.

'I love you. I can't wait for our trip.'
