Matt x Reader: You're Not Yourself

I had been dating Matthias for a year now but when he got sucked into Project 863 he asked me to leave town for my safety. I argued with him for weeks until I reluctantly went to go visit my parents in the next town over. Matt and I still talked on a daily basis until one day I started to notice that Matt didn't seem like himself. 

"Are you okay?" I ask over the video call to him as I crawl into the bed in the guest room of my parent's house

"Of course Baby. Why wouldn't I be okay?" Matt says to me. 

"You just don't seem like you're yourself," I say to him.

"I promise, my love I'm fine," He says to me. 

I smile slightly. I wanted to believe that but this has been going on for a while now. "When can I come home? My parents are starting to question if we are even still together" I say to him. 

"Soon. We have to find the S.P.I.R.E and turn it on. Once it's on you can come home" Matt says smiling at me through the phone.

I sigh slightly. "Okay I just miss you," I say to him before looking away from the screen 

"Hey," Matt says getting me to look at the screen "I love you. I will see you soon I promise" 

"I love you too," I say. Matt's face and the wall behind him start to glow a faint red. He looks behind the screen and nods to whoever is behind him. "Do you have a friend over today?" 

"Yeah he was just letting me know the food was here," Matt says. 

"Oh okay. Well, enjoy your food. I'll call you later" I say before hanging up. 

I quickly get up and start packing. Matt wasn't Matt and I was going to find out why. I quickly say goodbye to my parents before getting in my car. On my way, back to Santa Claira Sam calls me. 

"Hey," I say answering my call through the Bluetooth in my car. 

"We need you to come home," She says quickly. 

"I'm already on my way. There's something going with Matt" I say. 

"Yeah, we know. He's being controlled by Nelson Syphus" Sam says. 

"Nelson? The co-founder of Syntec? How?" I ask

"Mind Control? Possession? We don't know but we found out Nelson was the body outline in the one room of Red and now he's possing Matt" Sam explains. 

"Where are you guys right now?" I ask.

"Red Base. Mike is here helping us find the S.P.I.R.E we are trying to locate." Sam says.

"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can," I say before hanging up. 

After another 20 minutes or so I reached Red Base. Sam, Bailey, and Woods climb into my car with what looks like a satellite hooked to a small device. 

"What is that?" I ask. 

"It's gonna take us to the S.P.I.R.E," Woods says. 

"Alright lead the way," I say as I drive. 

When reaching the location, we were confused as to where Matt was since there wasn't a building on site. We soon discovered that there was a bunker. The team argues about who should go down but quickly decides that it should be Sam and I. Sam and I climb down into the bunker. I stay out of sight while Sam records Matt and Ben. 

"I think we're ready. Ben why don't you go up to the surface and see if subject 4 has solved the code" Matt says before turning towards Sam and me. "Also bring me Y/N and deal with the other" Ben turns towards Sam and me before going after us. 

Sam quickly climbs the latter as I grab the latter. Ben grabs my hips causing me to scream for Sam to climb faster. He drags me over to Matt shoving me to my knees next to him before heading after Sam. 

"Hello Y/N," Matt says 

"Hello Nelson," I say to him. 

"Ah the team told you I see," He says grabbing my chin roughly. I try to jerk my head away. "Stop it and listen to me." I stop trying to get away. "I don't want to ruin what Matt and You have together so I've made the decision to keep you by my side." 

Ben walks back down the ladder and walks over to us. 

"Well?" Matt asks.

"They found two codes" Ben answers. "Peppermint and Hazelnut"

"Hazelnut," Matt says. "A good friend" Matt inputs the code Ben had given him. I stay where I was kneeling "Are you two ready?"

"We own the future," Ben says.

"No, I own the future," Matt says before hitting the go button. The machine starts to beep indicating that it was shutting down. "What? No! Passive Mode Initiation Protocol."  "No. No. No. No. No. Why isn't it responding?" Matt sighs before looking at Ben. "You switched the code on me didn't you." Matt grabs ahold of Ben after pushing me aside. "You think this even matters? I've accounted for everything! Every backstabber! Every betrayal! Every counter move!"

"Nelson stop!" I yell I quickly get up trying to stop Matt from hurting Ben. 

Matt pushes me back causing me to fall over and hit my head off the shelving unit. My vision blurs as I reach up to put my hand on my head. My hand felt wet as I pulled it away. The room spun even more as I notice the blood on my hand. 

"I am one step ahead! When he comes he will see I am the absolute" Matt yells. Nelson vanishes as Matt takes over. He backs up into the corners. "What? Where am I?" Matt asks.

"Matt?" Sam yells running over to him. "Matt, I think this all worked."

"What?" Matt asks.

"You're in the S.P.I.R.E. I think the antidote work. I think you're okay." Sam says before turning to me. "Oh my god Y/N" 

"Y/N?" Matt says before meeting my eyes. 

I felt nauseous from the pounding headache in my head. Ben kneels down in front of me holding a finger up to me. 

"Focus on my finger," He says to me. 

I try my best to focus on it but it only made the spinning room worse. I quickly lean over to the side and throw up. 

"She most likely has a concussion," Ben says just before Matt moves over to me. 

"I told you to stay away from here," Matt says brushing my hair out of my face.

"I had to help you," I say trying to focus on Matt. 

"Now you are hurt because of me," Matt says. 

"She was trying to protect me," Ben says. 

I reach toward Matt who pulls my hands to his face. "I got you baby." He says before he helps me off the ground.

I sway slightly before Matt wraps his arms around me tightly. He holds me tightly before pulling Ben into our hug. When we pull apart Matt helps get me up the ladder. Woods helps me from the ladder setting me on the ground before helping Matt. Matt immediately knees infront of me and kisses me deeply.

"I love you" He whispers.

"I love you too." I whisper back. "Can I come home now?"

Matt laughes before kissing me again.
