The war had been going on for a while now. Of course, you hadn't been able to get near Draco, as you were fighting for Hogwarts, and he for Voldemort. You only saw a glimpse of Draco once, but he was immediately dragged away by his father, Lucius, because Draco and you were madly in love, and Lucius could tell. And boy did he hate it.
Lucius Malfoy was a bit... controlling of Draco, to state it simply. He was a huge follower of Lord Voldemort, so, as expected, he raised his favourite son, Draco to be one, too. In the Malfoy family, if you didn't follow Lucius's orders, you were punished.  Punished bad.  So Draco grew up on beatings. Sometimes worse than their poor house elf, Dobby.
As Draco grew older, wiser, he simply followed his father's orders, without question, which made Draco the most loved by Lucius. But since you were on Dumbledore's side, Lucius took any chance he could to get Draco away from you. But now it wasn't just Lucius who was keeping you away from Draco, you had much bigger problems now. War was raining down on you and all of Dumbledore's Army, and no one was safe.
All you cared about right now was making sure Draco was okay, though, not about Dumbledore, not about the famous Harry Potter, not about Voldemort, just that attractive, pesky little blonde boy in Slytherin.
You searched all of the castle for Draco, but there was no sign of him anywhere. You looked in every classroom, every common room (you moved the paintings with a spell so you could get in), every restroom, every hallway, and every stairway. You tried to ignore the gossipping of the people around you.
"Did you hear about Draco?" one girl whispered.
"I did! Isn't it so terrible?" whispered another girl, in response to the other.
You blocked your ears with your hands, and looked everywhere again.
Defeated, you decided to make your way back to where everyone else was. As you were walking back, however, focused on keeping your breathing steady, you bumped into someone. You looked up to see who it was, but they were wearing a cloak with a hood, and had their head down. They paid no attention to you and continued walking past you.
"I-I'm sorry!" you called out after them, stopping them dead in their tracks. Whoever it was stopped walking, picked up their head and didn't move for a bit.
"Y-Y/N?" they whispered just loud enough for you to hear.
"Uh, yeah?" you were now turned around, staring at the hooded figure. They suddenly took their hood off, revealing their short, but not too short, platinum blonde hair. You gasped,  Could it be him?  you wondered. They turned around and looked to you, the familiar face stained with tears and bruises. It was Draco Malfoy.
His eyes began to fill with tears and he ran over to you, hugged you, and lifted you up into the air at the same time. You immediately hugged him back, tight. You kissed his cheek.
"I thought you were dead!" You whisper-yelled at him.
"And I thought you were dead!" He yelled back, not whispering in the slightest bit. His voice was shaky, and he was choking back tears. He put you back on your feet, looking you in the eyes, a sad smile on his face.
"What-what happened?" You asked him, gently running your fingers over his bruises, making sure not to hurt him. He swallowed hard, his smile fading.
"And where w-were you?" you added to your previous question. He closed his eyes, leaning his head into your hand.
"I was- I was with my father, I told him I don't want- don't want to be a Death Eater anymore," he choked out, his eyes still closed. "and that I want to be with you," he whispered the last part.
"Oh, Draco... I-I'm so sorry! You went through-through his beatings for-for me?" you began to cry. He gently nodded his head against your hand. You took your other hand and cupped his other cheek, gently pulling his face down to yours. You softly kissed his lips, then slowly pulled away.
"You're so worth it though," he whispered, grinning wide. He pulled you into another hug. You felt safe. For once during this whole battle, you felt completely safe. Safe in Draco's arms, as if nothing could hurt you if he was there. You even felt at peace, and happy.
