(Y/n) walked away from her chatting class mates, the shrill school bell still ringing in her ear. She had tried to make a friend today, it hadn't gone well.
She watched the chatting girls nervously, fixing her hair in her pocket mirror before edging toward them.
She was trying to make a fresh start, trying to put her past behind her. She couldn't help the way she had been brought up. She couldn't help she had been made for one purpose – to destroy, to kill. She was trying so hard to right her wrongs. But no one was listening. No one cared.
"Um, hi Cindy. I was wondering if-"she didn't even finish her sentences before they were screaming at her.
"Get away freak"
"Stay away you monster"
"Beast"
"Evil beast"
"Wait, stop. I didn't mean" she raised her hands, trying to get them to stop pushing her. She didn't even realise her magic was leaking through her palms.
"Get away!"
"Run, quickly"
"She's going to kill us"
She watched in horror as the whole playground cleared, leaving her alone with her glowing green hands.
She pulled her jacket tighter, heading for the woods. It seemed to be the only placed that fully accepted her, the only place she felt at home. The trees didn't judge, nor the deer. They watched her with curiosity as she wept on the woodland floor. She listened to the soft trickle of water droplets sliding down the damp leaves, trying to dry her eyes before she went home. If her father saw her like this, she earn a slap.
She scratched at her head, wiping her eyes as she grabbed her school bag. She was just jumping over a sunken log when she heard the scream. Instantly her instincts were to flee, but someone needed her help. They might die if she didn't go. She sprinted toward the sound, cursing as she ran over her ankle in a funny way. But she had bigger problems to think about.
A large black wolf had tackled someone and was about to chow down on their face. Without even hesitating (Y/n) picked up a rock and threw at the animal.
"Hey!" she yelled, finally catching the beast's attention. She watched it with weary (Y/hc) eyes, stretching out her hand when it got to close. It made a snap at her, making her clink her fingers in response. A spark flew very close to the creatures paw and that was enough. It leapt away, whining as it disappeared into the bushes.
"Wow"
She suddenly remembered why she was actually there, staring down at the boy who she had saved. She recognised him from school, the saviour's son, Henry. He looked up at her in shock, nervously licking his lips. He had almost died after all, and still hadn't quite gotten over the fact that the town villain had saved him.
(Y/n) turned to leave quickly, her boots trudging on the dry dead leaves.
"Hey, wait!" Henry yelled, jumping to his feet and grabbing her shoulder.
"You probably shouldn't touch me" she whispered, trying to shrug him off "Bad things happen when people touch me"
"Why?"
"Because I'm a monster" she sniffed, again trying to escape his grasp.
"No you're not (Y/n). well not anymore anyway"
She turned back toward him, frowning.
"What am I then?"
"A good guy" he smiled "You've changed, you're a hero now. Don't you feel it?"
She shook her head, tears dribbling down her cheeks.
"Well you have" Henry quickly wiped them away, "People just don't see that you're soft at heart yet. But they will. Trust me"
And for the first time in her life, she did.
"Okay" she nodded, gladly accepting the hug from the boy.
