Making Myself At Home

My audition for the XFactor is in a week, but before I go, I wanted to spend some time with my family up north. I decided that I'm taking my nan, my grandad, my auntie Rachel and Lily to my audition. At the moment, I am driving towards the cemetery before I go to Rachel's. We arrive and I get Lily out of her car seat and carry her to my mum's grave.

"This is where your nanny is sleeping." I say.

Lily looks besotted in the scenery surrounding us.

"She loves you very, very much. I'm sure she wants to come and see you, by she can't. She needs to stay in somewhere called Heaven." I say.

Lily starts to look at me an I begin to sob. I put her car seat down on the co create and lay some new flowers. Once I finish up, I clip Lily's car seat back in and drive towards Rachel's.

"Harper!" Says Rachel as she runs out her front door after I pull up onto her drive and park the car.

"Where's the little Angel?" Says Rachel.

She gets Lily out of the car. We go inside and sitbon the sofa.

"So, how long are you in Manchaster for?" Asks Rachel.

"A few day. Remember, you nan, grandad and Lily are coming." I say.

"Ok. What song are you signing?" Asks Rachel.

"I won't give up by Jason Mraz." I say.

I get up and go into the kitchen. I pour myself a glass of water and then go back to the living room.

"How have you been? With Nathan being away and all." Says Rachel.

"I've been fine. It's been quiet, but the two of us have been fine." I say.

"Ok. Can you give me a preview of your audition?" Asks Rachel.

"Nope." I say, making a pop sound on the p.

"Why not?" Says Rachel.

"Because, I want it to be a surprise. Neither nan or grandadvhace ever heard me sing and for all I know, you co us be wearing a wire or they could even 've in the next room." I say.

"Alright, I may watch Criminal minds and Law and Order, but I don't watch so much that I'm a basic ninja." Says Rachel.

I roll my eyes at her sarcasm. I start to type a message on my phone, when Lily starts screaming at the top of her lungs.

"Rachel, what happened?" I ask.

"I don't know. She was fine and now she isn't." Says Rachel.

I look at Lily who is obviously in pain.

"I think she just has a bad stomach. It's happened before." I say.

I pick Lily up and take her to the sink. I get a cloth and begin to wipe her face. She soon settles down and I put her in her Moses basket that Rachel keeps in her home.

"Harper, your phone." Says Rachel.

I take my phone and leave the room. I go into the garden and answer it.

"Hello?" I say.

"Hello. Is this Harper Montgomery?" Asks a woman.

"Speaking." I say.

"Hi. My name is Melanie. I work for ITV. The Xfactor has had to be delayed and we are moving all auditions to the beginning of March. Please dont be disappointe. You still have your audition and you should get an e-mail soon, giving you new details." Says Melanie.

"Ok. Thank you very much." I say.

I end the call and then go back into the living room.

"Who was it?" Asks Rachel.

"This woman who works for ITV. All auditions have been moved to the end of March which means Nathan might be able to come." I say.

"That's great. I'll ring grandad now." Says Rachel.

Rachel calls my grandad and then I call Nathan. Be doesn't answer. Oh yeah, he's in Afghanistan.

"Look. He's probably out their on the battle field fighting for queen and country." Says Rachel.

"I hope he is ok." I say.

"He will be fine. Nathan has always been careful." Says Rachel.

I begin to get bored and decide to walk into town with Lily and Rachel.

"Hey look. They have an open mic. Go, sing. It's clear they need people. Plus, it's for charity." Says Rachel.

"What, in front of all these people?" I say.

"Harper. At the end of March, you will be auditioning for the Xfactor. Now go." Says Rachel.

Rachel take the pram and I walk towards the stage. The guy that is managing it asks me what song I want to sing and then tells the band who are behind me.

"If I were a boy. Even just for a day. I'd roll out of bed in the morning and throw on what I wanted, then go. Drink beer with the guys and chase after girls. I'd kick it with who I wanted and I'd never get confronted for it, cause they'd stick up for me. If I were a boy. I think I could understand. How it feels to love a girl. I swear I'd be a better man. I'd listen to her. Cause I know how it hurts. When you loose the one you wanted. Cause he's taken you for granted and everything you had got destroyed. If I were a boy. I would turn off my phone. Tell everyone it's broken. So they think that I was sleeping alone. I'd put muscle first and make the rules as I go. Cause I know that she'd be faithful. Waiting for me to come home. To come home."

I belt out the rest of the song and get a massive round of applause from not just the people that are watching, but people around.

"That was, amazing! Have you ever considered auditioning for the XFactor...?" Asks the guy.

"Harper and yes. I'm actually due to have an audition at the end of March." I say.

"Well. Go team Harper!" Says the guy.

I get another round of applause and then I hop off the stage and go back to Rachel and Lily. We begin to walk to Starbucks and I have a feeling in my stomach that something good will happen.
