Real

I was warm.

That was the first thing I noticed when I woke up.  The sun was golden, brilliant beams shining through the window.

I wasn't ready to wake up, yet, and I reached for Ash to pull her closer, like I did every morning.

Her side of the bed was empty.

She must have gotten up early.

I forced my eyes open, glancing around the shed, at the sunlight as it glinted off the seaglass strung up in the windows, tiny particles of dust floating like tiny diamonds in the air.

Something looked different.

I sat up, trying to work it out.  Her bag was gone.

I kicked the blankets off, checking at the end of the bed, but there was nothing, any and all traces of her were gone, like she'd never even been there.

Had I halucinated the whole thing?

I can't have, it was too real, the things we'd done, the things she made me feel, that was real, she was real.

That postcard, the one sitting by the zen frogs, that was real, as well.
