I held her, afterwards, for the longest time, resting my arm across the softness of her chest.  We hadn't bothered to pull our clothes back on; the cold couldn't touch us, protected by the blankets and by each other, in one another's arms as we slowly came down from our high.

We still hadn't spoken a word, but we didn't need to, both of us fighting desperately to stay awake.  I was losing, my eyes bluring as I shifted beside her, pulling her closer and hanging on.  She nuzzled into the side of my neck, fingers trailing over my ribs, legs tangled with mine.

I wanted to freeze time, to stay this way for an eternity, let the seasons pass us by without touching us, warmed to the core by each other's presence and nothing more.

Everything I'd learned about the universe, everything that I'd been blessed with, I'd have given it all to stay there with her like that forever.
