LIANA Holly had been standing outside the door of number eighteen, Lark Lane in Little Hangleton for around ten minutes now. Desperately trying to muster up the courage to follow her last lead on her mother.

She took a shaky breath as she reminded herself that if this had failed, so had the entire search. It would have all been for nothing, for, just as Christina and the ministry before her, Liana and Will would have failed to find any trace of her parents.

Liana raised her fist determinedly and after a second to try and pat down her hair, which was rather messy from running after the bus to get here, the girl knocked firmly, three solid bashes on the elaborately carved wooden door to the cottage that she stood outside of.

"Excuse me? Are you Mariette Slughorn?" Liana asked in her most polite and rehearsed voice the second the door opened a fraction.

"Aye a would be," confirmed the plump, dark headed woman who looked around the age of forty.

Mariette Slughorn glanced up and down the scruffy teenage girl who stood on her doorstep, taking in her tangled hair and dirty clothes.

"You doin alright lass? Ya look a right state?" Asked the woman, her thick accent softer now as she glanced around the dark streets of little Hangleton, almost as if looking for someone else, trying to work out what on earth this girl wanted with her.

Liana ignored the slight dig at her shabby appearance and quickly covered her moment of silence convincingly.

"Oh yes- I just wanted to ask you something if that's alright?" Liana suggested, trying to not sound desperate.

If this didn't work, she and Will would be packing their bags.

"Depends what ya askin," Mariette bristled, but she nodded her head all the same, gesturing for Liana to go on. Liana eagerly pulled a picture out of her coat pocket and thrust it towards Mariette.

It was the only photograph Liana had of her mother. She couldn't remember her old home address and was too terrified to ask Christina, it would have given her mission away at once. So instead she had simply gone digging through the shoeboxes of her parents things that they had in the London apartment.

"Would you by any chance recognise this woman?" Liana bit her lip as she studied Mariette. The woman took the picture and held it close to her dark twinkly eyes.

"Aye a would," Mariette answered eventually after a few moments of heavy silence. Liana's face flushed with excitement at once and her eyes widened gleefully.

"Tell me- what do you know about her?" Liana pressed, pulling a black notebook out of her other pocket, followed by a pencil.

"Well eh- this is Aubrey innit?" Asked Mariette uncertainly, squinting at the picture again, her brow furrowed in focus.
