A/n: idk why this didn't update yesterday but here it is today instead

AU: you and your soulmate share a flaw. The only two in the world with that flaw. When two people with the same flaw find each other, it's your soulmate.

If there was one thing you couldn't do, it was write neatly. Your handwriting was a bloody chicken scratch. And since you're the only person ever with that flaw... except for one other mystery person out in the world, everyone else had super neat handwriting. No one could bloody read your handwriting.

So you usually just typed all your work instead of writing it. The only thing people could read of your writing was your name, since they'd seen it enough times to connect that a particular scribble was meant to be your name.

But today, all the computers in taskforce were down for maintenance, meaning you had to hand write the reports on the latest heart attack victims. You kind of dreaded giving L your papers because there was no way he'd be able to read it. The taskforce knew about your notoriously bad handwriting, so they were definitely staying out of having to review your work.

That's something you did at taskforce, have someone else check your work in case of mistakes.

So when it came time to swap work, you just sat on your own trying to get out of having to swap with someone and talk them through what each scribble meant.

"Has everyone swapped?" L asked.

He got a series of 'yeses' in response. But you didn't say anything so he looked over at you and tilted his head.

"(Y/n)?"

"Oh... uh..."

"You don't wanna swap with her, no one can read her handwriting" Matsuda said.

"Yeah, she's known around the office for her bad handwriting" Aizawa added.

You just shrugged and nodded.

"Can't be as bad as mine..." L mumbled, holding out a hand for you to pass your work too.

You handed it over, ready to hear about how bad your handwriting was, but to you surprise, when the short silence was over...

"What are you talking about? I can read this fine?" He said.

"You can?" You questioned.

"I second that, you can? In all the years of knowing (y/n), no one has been able to read her handwriting" Matsuda added.

"Yeah? It's not that bad. Mines worse"

You looked over at L's paper and you could read everything completely fine.

"No? I can read all that. Mines worse" you said.

"You can actually read my handwriting?"

"Yeah"

"No one can read my handwr-"

All at once, you were both hit in the face with the bat of realisation. Both of you had bad handwriting... no one else could read your handwriting... the both of you could read each others perfectly...

It took a minute of silently starring at each other in shock for the taskforce to catch on.

"No..." Matsuda gasped.

"There's no way..." Mr. Yagami added

"No one has ever been able to read her handwriting..." Aizawa jumped in.

You and L just stared at each other in shock. You looked back down at the papers, then back up at him.

Bad handwriting, that was the soulmate flaw you shared.

"All this time... and you were right in front of me..." you said.

"I didn't think I'd ever find you..." L replied.

It was silent for a moment before emotions took over. You dropped the papers and jumped into each other's arms. Everything made sense now. How much you had in common, the fact you liked all the same things, how protective you got of each other so quickly, the joy you felt seeing each other every morning... everything clicked into place.

"If you do anything to put yourself in danger, I'm taking your bad-handwriting-sleep-deprived ass to fucking Hawaii and were hiding away forever..." you smiled.

"I can live with that if it means I get to be with you everyday..."

As much as you wanted to kiss him until all your lipstick ended up on his lips, you thought it'd be better to wait for the taskforce to leave... in case things got out of control.

But one thing was for sure:

The only people that could read your wedding vows would be the both of you...
