1992, 3 months before December
TAEHYUNG POV
"Taetae, my little Song Tae, I'll make sure to talk with your grandma and grandpa to take care of you," mom said as she held me in her arms, and I was an infant at that time. I opened my eyes to see her looking down at me, and she had tears in her eyes.
Was she sad? Was she happy?
She seemed like she could be both.
"Come on, let's go now. We need to go home so we can settle you down," she smiled before taking the bag and walking out of the hospital, carrying me in her arms as we went on our way back home.
The house was big. And it seemed like it was fit for the rich. Mom walked inside as she shut the door closed, and she made her way to the room.
"Yeongji?" A deep voice called. It was soft but hoarse. I wasn't familiar with it.
"Oh, hey," mom replied. She was looking back as she turned her body fully away from where we were headed, only to meet a figure from behind her.
THIRD PERSON POV
The person walked towards Yeongji and her newborn baby. She wasn't surprised by that person who called her name, not even one bit. She just stared at the person as if it was obvious that she was there.
"I thought you were at work?" She asked and the person shook their head.
"I got off... early," they replied and paused a bit.
"Is... that him?" The person continued and Yeongji looked down at the baby before looking at the latter, sighing before showing the baby to him.
"He's... so cute. I'm happy for you, Yeongji. I hope you take good care of him, what... what should I call this little guy?" He asked.
"Call him Song. Just call him like that until he's old enough to live with his grandparents, you did promise that he would live here for a bit," she said and he smiled softly.
"Well, I did. It wouldn't hurt having a cute baby around, isn't that right Song?" Seongjoo said as he smiled down at the baby's sleeping face. And Yeongji looked at her.
He's your child. Of course it wouldn't hurt. But please, don't attach yourself to him, you said you won't take responsibility as a father. She said in her head.
"Mr. Kim, please... don't get attached to him. I just want him to feel happy and loved, without the role of a father in his life. He deserves... to be happy afterall," Yeongji said as she pulled the baby away from him, and Seongjoo looked at her before nodding slowly.
And with that, Yeongji and Seongjoo ended their conversation after ignoring each other for a straight five months, only sharing words professionally.
December 1992
"Congratulations, Mr. Kim. The childbirth was successful. But I think the mother wouldn't last long," thw doctor said.
As Seongjoo sat on the chairs, he couldn't help but sob to himself. He was carrying the baby in his arms, and he couldn't understand why tears were streaming down his cheeks as he cried over his dead wife.
And Yeongji was there, standing by the corner. She looked at Seongjoo crying over another woman, something that she never thought she would witness.
She knew she was already replaced, by someone Seongjoo truly loved.
After a couple of minutes, Seongjoo walked towards her, carrying the infant in his arms.
