They'd come up with a decent enough plan.

They were trying to remotely deactivate the power core from the control panel on the roof. With Aldertree being the Head of the Institute, he'd have the master access codes that could shut it down.

While Alec and Aldertree were talking on the roof, Aldertree typing away at the panel, Serena was on the phone coordinating with Luke about when the Downworlders would attack, the alpha having managed to convince the Vampires and the Seelies to help, when six circle members walked onto the roof.

Three of them overpowered Serena, who'd stood near the door. Being distracted with her planning, her last-minute attempt to defend herself without her weapon drawn was futile and she wound up with two of them holding her arms as the other one held a blade to her throat.

"Let her go!" Alec ordered when he'd heard the commotion and looked over to see what had happened.

"I don't think so," a male, likely the self-appointed leader of the group, said as he moved towards her. "Valentine will reward us greatly if we bring her to him," he drawled as he ran a knuckle down Serena's cheek, the girl trying to back away but being unable to with the sword at her throat. "Pure-angel blood. Is she heavenly in the sheets? Or maybe more sinful like her demon-blooded brother? Maybe I'll find out."

If Alec's bow had been made out of anything other than Adamas, it would have shattered in his vice-like grip.

"I'd rather die," Serena growled as she pushed her neck forward on the blade and her blood began to drip down her neck as Aldertree had to hold Alec back, something he struggled with seeing as the man was twice his size.

A whip-crack sounded through the air as the three Shadowhunters holding Serena had their necks snapped as they dropped to the ground.

"Izzy!" Alec yelled out as the pale girl pushed her parabatai forward into her brother's arms, Alec healing the wound on her neck as Izzy's whip turned into a staff and she fought.

And as she stabbed her staff into the last Shadowhunter, it fell from her hand as she swayed on her feet, Alec rushing to catch her.

Serena punched Aldertree.

"What the hell are you doing?!" he swore as he stood back up, mouth leaking blood, his white teeth stained with it as Alec kept Izzy upright.

If she died today, she would die happy now that she'd done that.

"That's for my sister," she spat and whirled worriedly when she heard Alec gasp in pain.

"Jace."

That that one word was more than enough to send Serena running from the roof.
