Serena's plan had worked.

Ever since she'd discovered that Jonathan was alive and around, she and Clary had been reading up on Valentine's journals about him.

And she remembered how they discovered that he couldn't tolerate electrum, that the electrum burned his skin. The same electrum that just so happened to make up Izzy's whip.

So, after extracting some from it, they'd discovered that Sebastian wasn't Sebastian.

Sebastian was Jonathan.

He was Valentine's son and Clary's brother. He was the one who threw Serena into a tree. And he was the one who tried to kill Max.

And he'd managed to escape in the end.

But when Clary had tried to use her rune to nullify the Mirror's powers, it simply turned into dust.

Meanwhile, Serena hadn't let go of Max's hand the entire procedure, her bed still next to his as Brother Enoch worked to save him. Now it was just waiting to see if he woke up.

Serena herself had been finally discharged from the infirmary, told to keep speaking to a minimum and take it easy on her voice for a couple days and no singing whatsoever, but other than that she was ok.

She was still holding Max's hand as their entire family gathered around his bed and his eyes fluttered open.

"Did you catch Sebastian?" was his first words and they couldn't help but smile.

"You almost died and that's what you're concerned about?" Maryse laughed.

"Not yet though," Serena answered weakly.

"What happened to you?" Max asked as he turned his head towards her.

"You know how when Serena used to sing for you before you went to bed and you used to say that it sounded like an angel?" Izzy asked and he nodded weakly.

"Well, now that her voice is actually the voice of the angels, when she fought Jonathan, her singing caused him a lot of pain. But it took a lot of energy, so her voice is just sore," Alec explained and Max looked at Serena in awe.

"You fought Jonathan for me?"

Serena kissed his forehead.

"I would've...killed him...for what he did...to you," she strained.

"We all would've," Jace supported as he stood behind his sister.

"We're just so glad that you're ok, Maxie," Izzy beamed with tears.

"I still get to go on my first mission, right?" he asked worriedly.

And the Lightwoods couldn't help but laugh.
