Izzy, Clary and Jace were able to intercept a possessed mundane before it was sent off to kill a person they loved, Morgan, who was now locked in the Institute but still refusing to talk. That being the mission they ditched dinner for.

Izzy had come down to the cells with Serena after Alec was trying to get Morgan to reveal who the Owl was, with no luck.

They'd discovered that Morgan's cells were no longer mundane, they were demonic and there was no way to change them back.

Serena suggested that she try singing, but they didn't want to risk it. She was still a mundane and if she was exposed to the heavenly energy in Serena's voice, she could turn Forsaken.

Alec, however, was worried for a different reason.

He had wanted Clary and Jace to go check out what he thought to be a rogue vampire when Clary said that she wanted to take Izzy instead. That Jace was exhausted, that he hadn't been sleeping. Alec had the grilled Clary about Lake Lyn and his parabatai rune again, the girl still denying knowing anything. And when Alec asked her if there was something seriously wrong with Jace that she'd tell him, or at least Serena, she avoided the question altogether and left with Izzy.

"Too pretty for your own good?" Alec asked as he and Serena walked into Jace's room, him sitting on the piano bench as he stared into a mirror, hair slightly messy, bags under his eyes that Serena could swear were lined with water.

"Are you jealous?" Jace asked once he shook off the shock Alec's voice had given him, plastering a small smirk on his face as he turned.

"Nope. 'Cause, she looks better," Alec grinned as he threw an arm around Serena who rolled her eyes.

"I was just coming to your office, check on my next assignment," Jace said as he stood, walking over to them.

"Jacey, you look pretty beat. Are you sure you're ok?" Serena asked

"Yeah, I'm fine. Somno rune worked like a charm," he shrugged nonchalantly, eyes ducking away from her.

"JJ, you're lying to me," she called out and Jace tensed as he moved over to his desk, placed next to the piano in his room, a birthday gift from his sister and her husband.

"So, if you're really ok, why did you pull security footage of you entering the Institute?" Alec asked as they moved over to the desk, his hands clasped behind his back and Serena's crossed over her chest.

"Are you spying on me now?" Jace asked, with a weird smile.

"No. No, we're just looking out for you," Alec said softly.

"I'm just tired," Jace said as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I asked Underhill to pull the security footage to make sure he was running all the cameras," he said matter-of-factly.

"Jacey, that's not your job. And something's been off with you since we got back from Idris and you won't tell us. You're lying to us. We just want to help you," Serena said softly.

"Yeah, well stop making up problems where they don't exist," Jace retorted as he moved into the centre of the room. "And stop getting on my case for not being perfect."

"What?" Alec asked in confusion.

"Look I'm not at my best because I've been working too damn hard on this Owl case. Sorry for caring."

And he stormed out of his room.

Serena then looked nervously at Alec, her knee clicking.

"He's not ok. Something's wrong with my brother."
