Sweet Little Serena (Original)

Chapter 173

 Despite the destruction of Edom, Jonathan was still on the loose. And regardless of the party Serena and Alec were trying to plan, they had to deliver the news to all the New York Shadowhunters that in over 13 other Institutes, there had been demon attacks with mass casualties, both mundane and Shadowhunter, with several Institutes unaccounted for, Los Angeles, the Institute where Robert and Max were stationed, being one of them.

Serena and Izzy had wanted to go instantly and check, the raven even asking Clary for a portal, but Alec stopped Serena from even thinking about it when a transmission came through from the Los Angeles Institute.

Robert and Max had called, reporting that Jonathan had hit the LA Institute, killing everyone except for the two Lightwoods. He left the two alive so they could give Clary a message directly.

He was going to take out every Institute in the world, saving New York for last so that Clary could watch the world die, knowing it was all her fault.

Magnus had arrived at the Institute soon after with an update from Lorenzo, the two bonding as they prepared the warlock community for what was to come. And the duo worked closely with Serena to prepare the entire Downworld Community should Jonathan attack New York.

Jace had been ready to jump in and assemble a team to go after the demonic Morgenstern, with his twin by his side, but Alec had never been more determined to stop it from happening.

Serena only sighed, knowing that he was right when he said that this wasn't the same Jonathan, that he was more powerful than ever.

Clary had then managed to convince them to let her go alone to Toronto where they'd tracked Jonathan; the group watching on the surveillance monitors for any tiny sign that something was going to go wrong and that would be when Magnus would portal them all in.

As Clary said a quick goodbye to Jace before getting Magnus to open her a portal, Alec and Serena had gotten into a bit of an argument about who'd be going should Clary need back up.

"You are not going anywhere near him!" Alec whisper yelled.

"And I'm not letting any of you go there without me!" Serena retaliated.

"Baby, think about this. It's not safe."

"And if Clary can't stop him, nowhere will be safe. Not even Alicante. Remember how easily he took down the demon towers and that was before his little power upgrade. Alec," Serena said as she cupped his cheek. "I'd rather die by your side than run like a coward. I vowed that to you when I married you and I'm not about to break it now. So, if you go, I go. If you fight, I'm going to fight. And I love you Alec, but you won't be able to stop me."

Alec gently pulled her in for a hug, holding her close to him as his head rested on hers.

"Let's just hope that it doesn't come to that and Clary can stop him."
