"Who was that?" I asked as Mirabel gently guided me to room 112.

"That was Principal Aragonez" she explained.

"He's very scary" Camilo said.

Then we stopped in front of a closed door. Mirabel opened it to reveal our homeroom.

The homeroom class was loud and chaotic, people were yelling, laughing and talking sooo loudly. Back in the city, people would just sit at their desk and keep their head down until the teacher would come into the class. It was a nice contrast. Encanto was full of energy everywhere, it could even bring life even to a boring highschool.

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom" Mirabel said, leaving the room.

"Camilo!" I heard a boy say.

Camilo turned to look at whoever had just called his name. I saw a group of kids all standing in a circle. They all smiled at Camilo and waved.

"Camilo, come here!" a girl called out to him.

Camilo started walking towards the group. I looked around for Mirabel, she wasn't in the classroom anymore, she was probably still in the bathroom. I didn't know anyone else here other than Camilo and Mirabel. I didn't want to just go up to someone and start talking to them but I also didn't want to just awkwardly stand there in the back of the class until the teacher came.

Camilo's voice snapped me out of my own head.

"Y/n?" he asked.

"Huh?" I replied, dumbly.

"Are you coming?" he said, gesturing for me to follow.

Oh. I guess he was going to introduce me to these people.

"Hola, Camilo!" another girl said "Who's this?"

She waved at me and smiled. She seemed nice. I waved back.

"This is y/n! They're one of the L/ns living with us in Casita" Camilo explained.

"That's cool! I'm Ruben" a boy with dark skin and piercing eyes said.

"Hola, Ruben" I said, trying to sound confident.

"Oh right, y/n, these are my friends" Camilo said.

He pointed to another boy, the boy who had called his name first. He had fair skin and dark curly hair that he had in a tiny ponytail.

"This is Emilio" Camilo said.

"Hey" Emilio said, not looking up from his work.

"Don't mind him, he's just busy working on a project that's due today" the girl with the same fair skin and dark curly hair said "He didn't finish it."

"Shut up, Amelia" Emilio said.

"They're twins" Camilo explained.

That made sense, they looked alike. Their names are similar too.

"That's June" Camilo said, pointing to the other girl in the group.

June had dark skin and hazel eyes. She wore her jet black hair in a messy braid that hung over her shoulder. I noticed that she was glaring at me.

"June?" Camilo asked, waving his hand in front of her eyes.

"Uh- oh! Sorry!" she said, completely changing her attitude "Hi!"

"Um, hi" I said back, keeping my voice calm.

"You've already met Ruben" Camilo said, pointing to him.

"So you're living with Camilo, huh?" Ruben asked me "Anything interesting happen yet?"

"Please, Cami wishes" I said, understanding what he meant.

"Ooh, Cami?" Ruben said, turning to Camilo "You let them call you that?"

"Uh, yes" Camilo said, turning slightly redder "They wouldn't have stopped if I told them not to..."

"Can I call you 'Cami?'" June said, clutching Camilo's arm.

I stared at where their skin touched. For some reason, I wanted to push her off of him.

"Uh, no" Camilo said, rubbing the back of his neck with his free arm "I'd rather not have that nickname going around."

She made an annoyed face and then glared at me. What did I do?

Suddenly, the teacher, an older woman with squinting eyes and a hunched back, walked into the room. Despite her frail looking body, she had a loud and commanding voice.

"Silencio!" she yelled.

The class immedietly went to their seats and stopped talking. People had assigned seats. I didn't have a seat. I was left standing in the back of the room.

'Damn it' I thought.

The teacher stares me down. Silently asking me why I wasn't sitting down. I felt Camilo, who's seat was to the right of me, tug at my arm.

"Sit down" he whispered.

I noticed June staring at where Camilo was tugging. Then she made eye contact with me. She looked annoyed with my entire existence.

"Um, sorry Senora" I began "It's my first day, I don't have a seat..."

Her squinting eyes softened.

"Ah, you must be the new student" she said, glancing at the attendance list "Y/n, si?"

"Si, Senora" I replied.

She pointed to the empty seat in front of Camilo.

"Sit" she said, bluntly.

I did what she said and sat in front of Camilo. He smiled brightly at me and I couldn't help but smile back. I noticed June again, she was glaring at me now, hard. She was practically staring through my skull. I looked away from her when I noticed Mirabel enter the room.

"You're late, Mirabel" the teacher said.

"Perdon por llegar tarde, Senora Bolivar (Sorry I'm late, Ms. Bolivar)" Mirabel said.

"It's fine, go to your desk" Senora Bolivar said.

Mirabel made her way to a desk in the front row and sat down. Then Senora Bolivar started talking about upcoming events for the month. It was still september so not a lot was happening. I zoned out and ignored her words until it was time to head to my next class.
