We all walked to school together through the winding streets of Encanto. Camilo wasn't holding my hand like he usually does, maybe it was because he felt awkward doing it since Hugo was there. Maybe I wasn't the only one that noticed that Hugo had stared at our hands when Camilo tried to hold hands yesterday at the pool party.

For a while, it was silent for a while. Even Adriana and Miguel didn't talk to each other because they were both too scared to be the first to break the silence. I knew that if I didn't talk first, nobody was going to talk until we got to school.

"Hugo, why did you want to walk to school with us anyway?" I asked, turning to face him.

"What? I can't just want to?" Hugo asked, answering my question with a question.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head.

"Fine, fine" Hugo said, raising his hands to show his surrender. "You're the one who said that I should try and be nice to Camilo and his friends, I'm just following your orders."

"You're doing good then" I heard Camilo mutter under his breath.

Hugo stopped walking for a moment, causing Adriana to nearly bump into him. Hugo turned to stare at Camilo.

"What did you say?" Hugo asked softly.

"I said that you're doing good then" Camilo answered "Trying to be nice to me and my friends, I mean."

"Yeah, you can actually stand to be in the same room as me," Hugo said jokingly.

Camilo laughed along with him. It made me happy to see them getting along. Finally, we made it to school. Enzo, Rafael and Lydia were waiting outside the door of the school.

"Hugo!" Rafael said, taking one of his hands off of Lydia's waist "Hugo, over here!"

Hugo waved to them, his smile fading. But I could see it in his eyes that he wasn't unhappy to see them. I think he was just trying to keep up his stoic exterior. Enzo pulled Hugo towards them and shot a suspicious look in the direction of Camilo and our friends. Rafael, Enzo and Lydia smiled at me though.

"Hugo, what are you doing?" I heard Enzo ask.

"I was walking to school, what else?" Hugo answered.

"With Camilo and his little group?!" Enzo whisper-shouted.

"Guys, I'm trying to make amends with them" Hugo explained "You guys should too."

"That's why you left the house early, huh?" Rafael asked, "Mama was looking for you, you're doomed."

"I'll be fine," Hugo said, dismissing his younger brother. "I'm sure she's happy that I left the house early, as long as you don't tell her or Rayan, she'll think that I left early to study at the school library or something."

"Hugo, why are you trying to 'make amends' with Camilo? You hated him more than the rest of us do" Lydia said "Are you doing this because of Y/n?"
Hugo gave a quick glance in my direction, a soft smile on his lips.

"No! I've always known that being mean as hell to Camilo was wrong and that eventually, I would need to get over it and try to make it up to him" Hugo explained "It's just Y/n that helped me realize and who gave me the opportunity to do so."

I nodded at him and smiled before making my way inside. The rest of the day went as normal. Well, almost normal. The only thing that was really out of place was the fact that Hugo would wave to my friend group in the hallways when they passed each other. Soon enough, it was time for lunch.

When I entered the cafeteria, I glanced over to the table that Camilo and our friends usually sat at and saw that it had been moved over and another had been placed right next to it. Emilio was helping Ruben sit down at one of the tables and Amelia was telling some other students where the second table should go.

As I made my way over, I could feel my face contorting into one of obvious confusion.

"Yeah, just set it down over here" Amelia said in her usual sweet but stern voice "Thank you!"

She waved her hand in dismissive motion and the students that were helping her with the table went back to their respective table groups. Sometimes I forget how much influence the group has on this school. I was still confused about the extra table and couldn't help but ask.

"Hey uh, what's this all about?" I asked, gesturing towards the conjoined tables.

"I'm not sure, ask Ruben," Amelia replied.

I turned to Ruben and tilted my head, expecting an answer.

"Oh, right!" Ruben exclaimed "Okay, you guys all have to promise not to get angry at me, okay?"

"Ay, Ruben, what did you do now?" Emilio groaned.

"Hey, just- Just promise, okay?" Ruben asked.

We all nodded.

"Alright, so..." Ruben began "I was thinking that it would be a good idea if we...Y'know, joined the tables so that Hugo and his gang could sit with us today!"

We all stayed quiet. It had gotten quite awkward. Even Amelia was fidgeting with the hem of her uniform's skirt and she never did that. Soon, the silence was interrupted by the sound of laughter, Camilo's laughter. The tension seemed to lessen when Camilo joined us on the elevated platform. Oddly enough, he had brought Hugo.

"Hey guys!" Camilo greeted us "What's with the tables?"

"I was gonna invite you to sit with us and we needed extra room!" Ruben replied cheerfully.

Hugo was clearly surprised at the offer. He took a nervous glance towards his friends, who were on their way to their usual table.

"I...I would but..." Hugo began "We already have our seats."

"You can bring your friends!" Ruben exclaimed before Hugo could walk away.

Hugo turned back around to face all of us. He glanced towards Camilo before speaking.

"You sure?" Hugo asked.

"Of course!" Ruben answered, smiling at him.

Hugo gave Ruben a nod before calling his friends over. They looked confused, maybe even a bit hostile.

'Oh, Ruben...' I thought 'What have you gotten us into?'
