Hope's POV:

When we reach the castle after apparating back Dumbledore is leaning heavily on Harry. "We need to get you to the Hospital Wing sir, to Madam Pomfrey." Harry urges, letting him rest on a stone step. "No, Severus. Severus is who I need." He tells us.

"Wake him. Tell him what happened. Speak to no one else. Severus, Harry." We nod and we both go to rush off when we hear several sets of footsteps. Harry and I freeze, turning back towards Dumbledore who is currently struggling to stand.

"Hide yourselves. Don't speak or be seen by anybody without my permission. Whatever happens, it's imperative that you stay below. Harry, Hope, do as I say." I shake my head. I have a really bad feeling about this. "Trust me." He mutters.

Harry and I exchange a look and I go to argue, but he pulls me down below floor level. That's when we see him. Draco Malfoy. He's approaching Dumbledore, wand up. "Good evening, Draco. What brings you here on this fine spring evening?"

"Who else is here? I heard you talking." Malfoy snaps. "I often talk aloud to myself. I find it extraordinarily useful. Have you been whispering to yourself Draco?" Dumbledore asks him. There's a bit of silence. "Draco, you are no assassin." My heart nearly stops.

"How do you know what I am? I've done things that would shock you." He snaps. "Like cursing Katie Bell and hoping that in return she'd bear a cursed necklace to me? Like replacing a bottle of mead with one laced with poison?" I suck in a breath. Harry was right. He was always right.

"Forgive me Draco. I cannot help feeling these action are so weak that your heart can't really have been in them." He says softly. "He trusts me. I was chosen." At his words, Malfoy lifts the sleeve, revealing the Dark Mark. I suck in a breath and exchange a glance with Harry.

"Then I shall make it easy for you." Dumbledore says, raising his hands to his side in surrender. "Expelliarmus." Malfoy quickly disarms him, Dumbledore's wand flying from his hand. "Very good. Very good." Before anything else can happen the door opens once more.

"You are not alone. There are others. How?" "The vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement. I've been mending it." "Let me guess. It has a sister. A twin." "In Borgin and Burkes. They form a passage."

"Ingenious. Draco, years ago, I knew a boy who made all the wrong choices. Please let me help you." "I don't want your help! Don't you understand? I have to do this! I have to kill you. Or he's gonna kill me." I may not like him, but Draco Malfoy isn't a killer. He's not his father.

No matter how much he acts like it. Harry and I have now backed up to where we can still see everything, but enough to ensure that we cannot be seen. That's when the Death Eaters appear. Bellatrix, Fenrir Greyback, and two men I don't know.

"Well, look what we have here." Bellatrix taunts with a smirk. Harry has his arms wrapped around my waist to ensure I stay there. She walks up to Malfoy. "Well done Draco." She whispers. "Good evening Bellatrix. I think introductions are in order, don't you?" Dumbledore suggests.

Trying to buy time. Time for what? He has to have a plan. He's Albus Dumbledore. "Love to Albus, but I'm afraid we're all on a bit of a tight schedule." She whips around to face Draco. "Do it!" She snaps.

"He doesn't have the stomach, just like his father. Let me finish him my own way." Greyback comments. Harry points his wand directly at Draco. They're still talking, but I feel a presence behind us. I whip around, wand ready. I see Snape with his wand pointed at us.

Harry and I both lower our wands per his request. He then motions for us to stay quiet. He then leaves, continuing on his way up here. "NOW!" Bellatrix yells. "No." Snape interrupts. Everyone turns to face him. "Severus." Dumbledore says after a tense silence. "Please."

Snape raises his wand quickly. "Avada Kadvra." A green light shoots from Snape's wand and hits Dumbledore straight in the chest, sending him off the side of the Astronomy Tower. I go to let out a strangled gasp, but Harry slaps him hand over my mouth before I can.

Tears start streaming down my face. Bellatrix shoots a Dark Mark into the sky in victory. Once all the Death Eaters are gone Harry and I are out of the Astronomy Tower. Harry and I follow then through the Dark Forest, towards Hagrid's hut. "SNAPE! HE TRUSTED YOU!" Harry yells.

Everyone turns to face us as we sprint forward. "Go on!" Snape yells to the rest of the Death Eaters. "Incarcerous!" Harry yells. Snape deflects it. "Fight back! You coward! Fight BACK!" He yells. Bellatrix hexes Harry. I snarl, eyes glowing bright gold.

Letting out a scream in anger

Letting out a scream in anger. I create a bright white ball of energy in my hands and shove it forward, sending Bellatrix flying. Now that she's down, I sprint forward, shifting in midair and landing on top of her. My teeth sink into her skin as I fling her like a rag doll.

I go to speed over to her to continue her torment when I'm hit from behind with a spell. Pain rips through my body as I howl in agony. "Enough." Snape snaps. My gaze snaps towards Snape and my hatred only grows. Harry is back on his feet.

"Sectunsempra!" Harry yells, but Snape just deflects it and knocks him off his feet again. At least he dropped the spell on me. I'm quick to my feet as I race to Harry's side. He tries to get close to Harry, but I step in between the two, snarling and growling.

"You dare use my own spells against me Potter. Yes. I'm the Half-Blood Prince." With that he walks away, laving me to deal with Harry. I quickly shift back and kneel by his side, mutter a healing spell over him.

"Come on. We should get back. Everyone will know what has happened." He nods, taking my hand. We race back to the castle. Everyone is gathered outside in the courtyard, staring at Dumbledore's fallen frame.

Harry and I walk forward, in the middle where everyone is leaving space. We kneel beside Dumbledore's body. Tears are streaming down my face by now. "No." I mutter, my heart shattering.

Not only is this the man who gave me a life in the world, gone, but so is my only hope of ever seeing my family ever again. There's no going home. I'm stuck. All the emotions start to swell inside of me. "Hope?" Harry asks. "R-run, get b-back." I breath, my vision clouding.

"Everyone back up, now!" Harry yells. The students are quick to rush back towards the castle as finally I give into my grief. I let out an ear shattering scream. A burst of energy flies from my body, shaking the columns around me. I stay there sobbing as I feel someone approach. It's not Harry.

Professor McGonagall appears beside me. She pulls me into her arms and hugs me as I sob into her shoulder. He's gone and I'm stuck. When I pull away I see everyone raising their wants, a faint glow at the tips. Everyone has their wands raised. The Dark Mark starts to disappear.

"Post tenebras spero lucem." I mutter a final time, cupping my hands together. A white orb appears and I raise my hands towards the sky. The orb floats up, destroying the mark completely.

The fall of Albus Dumbledore marks the beginning of the end, no matter which way the tide turns, its begun.
