Hope's POV:

Harry's been acting strange ever since that Hogsmeade trip. Hermione and Ron went home for Christmas, but I stayed behind with Harry to make sure he's ok and so that he's not alone. He's been sneaking off at weird times and he'd always get back late. Tonight I'm going to ask him about it. Right now the two of us are sitting in the Common Room.

We're each reading different books, sitting in comfortable silence. "Where have you been going?" I ask. He looks down at me, confused. "What?" "Where have you been going?" I ask. "I don't know what you mean."

"Yes you do. Everyday you disappear for hours and expect me not to notice. I'm your best friend Harry James Potter, now tell me where you've been going." I say. He sighs and closed his book, setting it next to mine.

"Professor Lupin has been teaching me the patroneus charm so that I can be prepared for when the dementors attack me again. I've also been trying to figure out why they keep coming after me, I'm like a beacon to them." He says. I nod. "Why didn't you tell me?" I ask.

"I don't know. I guess I just didn't want you to worry about me." I laugh little. "Harry, I'm always going to worry about you. What will make me worry less is knowing where you are sneaking off to everyday." I explain he nods and grins. "Fine, from now on I'll tell you what I'm doing."

"Thank you." With that we go back to comfortable silence. The rest of break goes by normally. When Hermione and Ron get back and school starts up we settle back into a normal routine. One of the tasks is to go down and visit Hagrid every day to see how he's doing.

Lucious Malfoy is taking him and Buckbeak to court over what happened with mini Malfoy. He's really upset about it and it's easy to see why. Right now we're headed down to the Black Lake to talk to him. The trial was this morning so we're all curious to find out what the verdict is.

"How'd it go Hagrid? The hearing?" Hermione asks. "Well, first off, the committee members took terms telling us why we were there. Then I got up and did my piece. I said Buckbeak was a good Hippogriff, always cleaned his feathers, and then Lucius Malfoy got up and started talking."

I roll eyes. "You can Imagine he said, 'Buckbeak is a cruel and merciless creature who will kill you as soon as look at ya'." He says. I really hate that family. "And then?" Hermione encourages. "Then he asked for the worst, good ole Lucius." He says. My eyes widen.

"They're not gonna fire you are they?" I ask. "No, I'm to being sacked." He pauses for a second and I know he's tearing up. "Buckbeak's been sentenced to death!" I gasp, tears filling my eyes. I love Buckbeak. I've visited him every time we've come down to Hagrid's.

Harry notices my tension and grabs my hand squeezing it. After the lake we head back up to the castle because it's getting dark. My friends head up to their rooms while I stay in the Common Room by the fire place. I've been getting back to drawing recently.

I haven't done much of it since I've been here. I did mine and Harry's Mirror of Erised pictures, but that's mainly it. I've been working on something for Harry. Something that'll be just as valuable to him as the one I gave him last year.

I know he doesn't have that many personal items and he doesn't have many pictures of all of us so I'm drawing several in a sort of collage to give to him for his birthday this year. I'm almost done with it. There are two more spaces that I can't figure out what to draw.

I've gotten all the most important moments and the funny ones, but I can't figure out the last two. Maybe they will happen this year. Suddenly I hear footsteps. Who else would be up at this hour?

I turn and see Harry walking down the staircase with his wand the Marauder's Map he told us about that got him to Hogsmeade. "Harry? What are you doing?" I ask. He looks at me, shocked that I'm up. "Hope?" "Yeah, now where are you going?" I ask. He glances down at the map.

"I, uh, I have to do something. Don't worry, I'll be back in a second." He says, heading for the door. I stand, closing my sketch book. "You really think I'm not going to go with you?" I ask, walking over to him. "Uh, well, I just thought that I could go alone." He says. I roll my eyes.

"Harry, a murderer who is after you has been able to sneak into this castle undetected, I'm coming with you. Now what are we looking for?" I ask. "Uh there's the man who Sirius Black killed, a friend of my father. A man named Peter Pettigrew. I saw his name on the map." He says.

"How is is that possible?" I ask. "I don't know. I'm going to find out though." "Well, lead the way." He nods and the two of us exit the Common Room. I follow Harry through the castle. The paintings on the wall keep telling him to put his light out. Why didn't he bring his cloak?

Must have been such a shock to him that this Peter Pettigrew guy was alive that he forgot to grab it. Suddenly he stops. "What? What is it?" I ask. "Shh." I keep quiet. The air is thick. I look down and see that Pettigrew is supposed to be right in front of us, but there's no one there. What?

Harry and I spin in a circle, trying to figure out how he's getting past us. Does he have an invisibility cloak too? Ron said they're rare, not one of a kind. Then he's gone. I look down at the map again. "Harry." I whisper, gesturing to Snape's name.

"Mischief managed. Nox." He mutters, putting the light from his wand out. We go to walk off when suddenly Snape is there. "Potter, Mikaelson. What would you two be doing wondering the corridors at night?" Snape asks. "I was sleep walking."

"I saw him leave the Common Room and followed so that I could wake him up." I say, trying to be helpful. "You're really  like your father Potter, he too like to strut around the castle." "My dad didn't strut, and nor do I. Now I would appreciate it if you could lower your wand." Harry says.

He does. "Turn out your pockets." "What?" "Turn out your pockets." Harry does, pulling out the map. "What is this?" "A spare bit of parchment." "Is it? Open it." Snape says. He does and Snape points his wand at it. "Reveal your secrets." Words again to appear on the map.

"Read it." "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs, offer their compliments to Professor Snape, and-" "Go on." "-and request that he keeps his abnormally large nose out of other people's business." Harry says. My eyes widen and I look down at the parchment.

Sure enough that's what it says. "Why you little-" "Professor." Someone says from behind Snape. He turns, revealing Professor Lupin. "Well, well, Lupin. Out for a little walk in the moonlight." He says before grabbing the map.

"I have just now confiscated a rather curious artifact. Take a look. It is your area of expertise. Clearly it's full of dark magic." He says, pointing his wand at it. Something flashes in Lupin's eyes before he covers it up with a laugh.

"I seriously doubt it Severus. It looks like a piece of parchment designed to insult anyone who tries to read it. I suspect it's a Zonko product. Nevertheless I shall investigate. After all, like you said, this is my area of expertise. Harry, Hope, come with me." He says. We nod and follow him.

We walk down the corridors to his office. "Come in. Now I haven't the faintest idea Harry, how this map came to be in your possession. Quite frankly I am astounded that you didn't hand it in. Did it ever occur to you that this, in the hands of Sirius Black could be a map to you?" He asks.

Harry looks shocked. He defiantly didn't think about that. "Now your father never much thought about the rules, but he and your mother gave their lives to save yours. Gambling their sacrificed by wondering around the castle unprotected, seems a pretty poor way to repay them."

Harry looks at the ground. "Now I will not cover up for you again." He says. "Yes sir." "Now I want the two of you to return to your dormitories and stay there. Don't take any detours. If you do I shall know." He says, tapping the map. We both nod and go to exit the room.

Suddenly Harry stops. "Professor, just so you know, I don't think that map always works. Earlier on it showed someone in the castle. Someone I believed to be dead." He says. "Oh really? Who might that be?" Lupin asks. "Peter Pettigrew." Lupin's face blanches. "That's not possible."

"It's just what I saw. Goodnight Professor." He says, grabbing my hand and pulling me from the classroom. There's one thing on my mind at the moment, how is Peter Pettigrew alive and why does Lupin know him?
