Lena's POV

I adjust the sleeves of my crewneck as Kara stands next to me shading her eyes from the sun as I say "Do we really have to be here? You know I feel about small towns in the south."

Kara gives me an understanding smile as she says "I know but this is the cost of driving across the US instead of just letting me fly us there. And unfortunately, we need to stop and allow our car to charge back up, and exploring the town is more fun than sitting around in the very hot car."

"Still I don't love this, you know how dangerous it is to be a queer couple in the south?" I say feeling my hair stand on end when we get a couple of sideways glances from people walking on the other side of the train track.

"You do realize you now have half of my powers and are literally indestructible? I am not trying to take away from what you are feeling.  National City is in a very liberal area of New York and Krypton didn't have homophobia or transphobia. I don't know what you have been through growing up in republican areas, but I promise that if there are any bad signs we will get out at the first slight sign."

I smile thankfully at my girlfriend and give her a kiss on the cheek "I mean a town literally called Purgatory can't be all that bad" We had to take the train an hour into this town after leaving our car as close as possible to charge." We walk away from the platform and over the tracks towards town.

Thankful the new Kryptonian DNA I recently acquired after Kara and I got married so we can be together forever. (I am not dealing with explaining the science of this but it works just trust me). Thankfully the perks being my back isn't killing me after the many hours of driving that we have done over the last several days. I may have flights but I am still afraid of flights so I avoid it when possible but I am about two seconds away from just letting Kara fly us to Seattle so Kara can finally introduce me to her friends from college who we have only talked to over the phone. I did my research they are all badass surgeons at one of the best trauma centers in the world.

We pause our walking when Kara decides to pull out some sunglasses and I look for a place for us to eat on my phone but there is no service so I give up and just try to physically look around.

A sheriff's car pulls up next to us and a tall redhead steps out of the car and adjusts her cowboy hat as she says "Hi, are y'all lost?" with a friendly smile on her face.

We both turn to face her and I don't say anything but I smile back as Kara says "Hi, yes just a bit."

She tips her cowboy hat back out of her eyes and looks at the view as she says "You must be tourists, how can I help you?"

I chuckle and say "I would say we are more just passing through but yes we are. We decided to do a cross-country road trip. Though I still don't understand why driving was the best option considering."

The officer chuckled at me and says "Well, why don't I give you folks a ride into town? This is like a false front you won't hit the real main street for another 6 miles. I will give you a slight tour around while we go. I am about to get off my shift anyway so I can show you around and a good place to eat 'cause it's just about lunchtime" Both Kara and I's stomach grumble and the officer laughs.

Kara laughs as well and says "That would be great thank you...?"

The officer offers her hand to us and says "Sheriff Nicole Haught, nice to meet you...?"
