Eliza's POV

I sit looking at the two kids I have taken in. Kara was short but really looked similar to her older sister Carol. 

Kara hasn't spoken a word to me since she landed and Carol doesn't stop talking but it's never anything of substance unless it is in Kryptonesse to her sister. Kara understands English so I know what I am about to say isn't going to go over her head. 

Sitting on Kara's lap is a small black cat named Toothless who won't let me anywhere near her, and on Carol's lap is an orange tabby she named Goose. 

I take a deep breath and prepare for the hard conversation this is about to be. 

"You can't bring cats to school," I say simply and Carol immediately responds

"They aren't cats" 

"Okay, you have said that multiple times but as the human out of the three of us, and the adult in this house. I have to tell you that everyone at your new school will see them as cats and you will get in trouble." I rub the bridge of my nose. 

Kara mumbles something to Carol and Carol responds before they both turn back to me and Carol says "So there is absolutely no way for us to bring Goose and Toothless to school? They really don't like being left alone." 

"Look I can try and pull some strings and see how quickly we can get them registered as ESA because it is clearly causing you distress to be apart so it's a legitament need, then you would MAYBE be able to bring them with depending on school policy." The girls start smiling and I feel awful adding "But even if I pull some strings getting it processed can take many weeks if not months and the school definitely won't let you bring them to class." 

"UGHHHH!" Carol yells sending laser vision into our ceiling. 

"Look, I am gonna call in all the favors I can and see what I can do. Until then I know they won't enjoy being in the house with me so I am gonna get a big shed put up outside that will have everything they could possibly need." 

That seems to calm the girls and the cats down enough that they moved on to asking me about what was for dinner.

"You really should spend more time with them, Clarke." 

He plugs in all of the wirings to turn on power and heat to the cat's new house before he turns and addresses me. "Eliza you know I can't. I am trying to juggle with my new job, my super duties, and the army up my ass to join I just can't." 

"Clarke you are the only family they have. Their planet and family were destroyed less than a year ago in their minds. You have 26 years to process and understand that loss and you still had Martha and Jonathan. The girls don't have anyone." 

"They have you and Alex" 

"Alex and I could move mountains and right now they wouldn't see us as family because of the pain they are in. They want you around. At least come by for dinner " 

Clarke glances at me and once again says "I can't." Before taking off. 

Carol walks out with Goose walking by her side. 

I open the door and the cat sprinted in to check out the new space.

"He still won't spend time with us?" I shake my head softly. "You think after I changed his diapers and babysat him for months till our world exploded that he would be more grateful." There is humor in her voice but it was only there to cover the pain I knew was behind it. Carol is two years older than Kara who is 16 and her awareness shocks me more every day. "Goose seems to love his new house"
