The drive back to the Creel household was completely silent. At first Adira had been trying to tell them some jokes in attempt to defuse the tension asking them, "what is the difference between a dirty bus station and a lobster with breast implants," none of the teens had really bothered to put any thought into it, they appreciated that she was trying to defuse the situation, but none of them were truly in the mood, "one's a crusty bus station and one is a bust crustacean," she said, and of course she snorted softly at her own joke, finding it amusing.

The jokes only continued on for about 10 minutes before Adira gave up and began to feel all her anxiety rush over her like a tidal wave, drowning her in an endless dark void that she wouldn't be able to swim out of.

Then after that, it had gone completely silent. All adrenaline had died out, everyone felt nothing but fear and determination, nobody knew what the outcome of this was going to be, they feared for their lives and the lives of their friends. They feared that they would fail and wouldn't be able to save Hawkins, that Vecna would beat them and be able to complete his plan. However, it was this fear that seemed to drive them to give it everything that they got, to fight with everything that they had and do whatever it takes to kill Vecna.

Nobody was cracking jokes anymore, or sharing fond memories, or talking about music or the new records that would be coming out next week. Not even Adira could manage to put a smile on her face. None of them could bring themselves to look at one another, scared that they would crack and break down.

They had never felt this scared before, not even last summer when they took down the mind flayer. Adira was looking down at her left hand and her right hand, Dustin was gripping onto her left hand, his hand was slightly sweating and she could feel it twitch occasionally, softly shaking in fear. Eddie was holding onto her right hand, his grip was much tighter than Dustins and it was shaking due to the fact that Eddie was bouncing his leg up and down anxiously.

Adira looked over at Dustin and could see waves of fear crashing over his face, "it's going to be okay Dusty, I promise," she knew that it wasn't something that she should promise, because it wasn't something that she could guarantee, but she believed that it was worth it when she saw the boy calm down slightly. He trusted Adira with his life, so if she thought that everything was going to work out okay, then he thought so too, "I'm not going to let anything happen to you okay," that was a promise that she intended to keep

They pulled up outside of the Creel house and Max, Lucas, and Erica all stood up, ready to get out of the van. Adira quickly stood up and walked over to them, tears brimming her eyes as she pulled them all in for a hug, "you three take care of each other alright. If something goes wrong I need you to talk to me through the walkie talkie okay and Ill do everything I can to help," Adira said as she tightened her grip around them slightly. She tried her best not to cry, sniffling a little as she pulled away from them and forced a fake smile on her face to try and give them some hope, "you guys have got this okay? Just stick to the plan and hopefully everything will go fine," she told them

Erica nodded her head and jumped out of the van but Lucas and Max threw their arms around the girl once again, holding onto her tightly

"Be safe alright," Lucas said, "and don't let Dustin try to boss you around," he joked with a small smile.

"You and I both know how bossy he is," Adira joked and sent a small wink over to Dustin who scoffed softly in reply.

Lucas chuckled softly and grinned up at her. He couldn't imagine what he would do if something happened to her, she had always been there for him and his friends. She had always stuck up for them and stopped their bully's the best she could, she meant a lot to him
