"Jesus fucking fuck! Get behind me Dustin!" Adira demanded Dustin as a bat bashed its way through the vent, its friends beginning to do the same. She quickly used one of her arms to push the young boy behind her and then grabbed his stick with a knife attached to the end and ran over to the hole, stabbing the bats quickly. The sound of the bats screeching reverberated off the walls, stinging their ears as they fought hopelessly for their lives

Eddie grabbed his spear and ran over before he began to help her, the two of them trying to hold off the bats for as long as they can, sweat quickly began to build up on their faces as the jabbed the spears as fast and as hard as they possibly could.

"Dustin, you need to get back to the portal and climb through, we can't hold them off for much longer!" Adira called out to him, only turning her head to face him for a small second before quickly looking back up at the vent

Adira suddenly felt like she was being strangled, and then she felt like her whole body was being squeezed. An intense pain racked throughout her entire body but she couldn't scream. Her eyes went wide as she began gasping for breath and fell on her knees as she clawed at her throat.

It felt like there was something strangling her, choking her to the point of unconsciousness, but she kept on struggling, fighting to stay awake. Dustin saw what was happening so he rapidly ran up and grabbed the spear then took her place while giving her a concerned look, his eyes darting rapidly between the vent and the girl

"Adira! Adira what the hell is happening! Tell me what's wrong!" Dustin called out to her, tears welled in his eyes, it was hard to see the girl that he cared for so much, in so much pain, and to make matters worse, he didn't know what was causing it or got to stop it. Dustin's screams caught Eddie's attention who had been too focused on the bats to notice that something was wrong with his girlfriend

Adira then got flashes of Steve being pulled against a wall by vines, the long charcoaled vines strangling his fragile neck as he struggled for air.

"It's Steve," she choked out breathlessly, "the vines... they're choking him," she cried out, her neck was going red and purple, "they're killing him."

"Hey! You need to break the connection okay," Eddie told her quickly, his heartbeat quickening even more as his eyes darted between the bats and his girlfriend. Eddie then shoved Dustin to the side softly and let out a yell as he used his nail filled shield and stabbed it up into the roof to cover the hole.

Dustin quickly crawled over to Adira and grabbed her in his arms, "Adira you have to disconnect alright! If you break the connection, then you shouldn't feel it anymore."

"I can't! What if something happens to him!" She cried out as she tried to catch her breath, tears welling up in her eyes

"If you don't break the connection then you're going to die!" Dustin cried out in distress, running his hand through his hair as he tried to figure out what to do. He didn't even notice the tears running down his face as he cradled her.

Eddie dropped down on his knees next to her and took her from Dustin, he grabbed ahold of her face and turned her head to look at him, a desperate look covered his rough features, "listen to me Adira. We need you, I'm not letting you leave me alright, not when I finally fucking got you after all these years. Break the fucking connection, I'm not fucking around right now." His tone was demanding and harsh. He leaned down and pressed his forehead against her own, "break the connection."

Adira didn't want too, she wanted to be able to help her brother, but she knew that there was nothing she could do to help him right now. He wasn't in someone's mind, he was still in the upside down, so far out of her reach.
