My eyes shot open, I was wounded, but my mana was healing me fast, before me stood twenty soldiers, all looking at me as I sat up after being knocked unconscious by a spell I didn't see coming. "Thank you." I spoke up, getting looks of happiness from the survivors. I didn't notice them, but I could tell the few here that were mages could hold their on in a fight. "Thank you for getting me out of there."

"It is our honor, Lance Varay." A man said, bowing to me, and in turn, everyone behind him bowed as well, showing their respect towards. "Etistin is lost, we saw Lance Virion and Bairon retreating on the other side, we couldn't get through the city fast enough to catch them with your body."

"Were they okay?" I asked, wondering how my fellow Lances were. "Did Virion survive against the Scythes, I was going to go help him, but I couldn't, I couldn't leave the bay?" The man nodded his head, and I felt a sense of joy spread, but my body ache.

"You should rest, we are about a mile out from the city, but as you can see, you were struck with a lightning spell near your core." The man said, motioning for me to stay down. "We aren't healers, none of us know what to do exactly, but we wrapped your wound up as best as we could."

"I thank you again for that." I told them, happy to have them here. "Mind me asking, what is your name?" The soldier stood up straight, a smile forming on his face, and he bowed once again by himself.

"My name is Jack, Lance Varay, it is an honor to be here with you, if only it was under better circumstances." He said sorrowfully, but I nodded, letting him know I understood. "The rest of us are all that made it out in time, we were being followed, but some stayed behind to buy us time, we should be good."

"I appreciate everything you have done." I conjured an ice blade in my right hand and drove it into the ground, using it to stand on my feet, I didn't need to lay down anymore, I couldn't, we needed to get further away. "We need to get further away; this won't be enough."

"Are you sure you can move?" Jack asked me, everyone had a worried expression, they all looked bloody, beat up, just like me, so I had to go on, I had to push forward. "Lance Varay, we have been here for a good day now." My eyes widened in fear, what? We have been here for a day; I have been out cold for a day?

"How?" I said, then went on. "I was out for a day, how did you hide me for that long? I am surprised they didn't find us in that time." I would suspect that they would want to capture any Lances that they could, we are beacon of hope, so killing one, or capturing one, would do a lot for them.

"Leonardo has been using plant magic to hide us." Jack said, pointing to an elf. "He was a very skilled plant mage for the elves, it's been working so far." A plant deviant, I see, I guess I owe my safety more to him, but then again, all these people saved me.

"We need to get going still." I said again. "It doesn't matter how long I was out, sooner or later they will find us, and right not, I won't be much help." I couldn't take on anyone stronger than a regular mage right now, if a Retainer or worse, a Scythe showed up, it would be the end for me.

"All of us will follow you to the end, Lance Varay." A female warrior said, I didn't sense any mana in her, she must not be a mage. I turned away from Etistin, I could sense the mass movement of mana there, and started walking through the four soldiers in my way.

"Let's go." I said. "All of the cities are probably overrun; our best choice will be the Wall." I would go after Virion and Bairon, but I don't know where they went, or if they could even get away, they could be captured for all I know. "What about Aya? Where was she? Arthur? Oh, and Lady Sylvie, did they all leave with Bairon and Virion?"
