As a lesbian, I guess many have always assumed that I was just like every other non-straight person. Many of my LGBTQ+ friends have gotten upset with me over political stances of mine that don't coincide with theirs. They have always treated me like I was supposed to believe certain things that they did, otherwise I wouldn't be a real gay person. I had always imagined being a part of a community where there is diversity of all kinds, including intellectual diversity. But as soon as I see something from an LGBT account on social media that I disagree with and speak up on the matter, I am always either blocked or have a slew of people trying to shut me up. As if my opinion on certain things weren't as "valid" as theirs for whatever reason. I wanted to write about this topic for anyone else in the LGBTQ+ community who feels like they don't belong because of how they think. You aren't alone.
