I sighed and sat at the table. Today was Gotham Academy's yearly ball, or more basically prom. I ate the small piece of chocolate on my table and watched everyone getting hooked up, dancing the night away with their dates, etc. Through this entire crowd, all I could focus on was my best friend, Dick Grayson and his date, Barbara Gordon.

Babs was wearing beautiful dress, that complimented her body well, and Dick was wearing a dashing tux that brought out his baby blue eyes and made them shine. These past few months, those 2 have gotten closer, and Dick would talk to her more when he could. I was aware that they both had nightly activities, so I thought it was natural they were talking more to improve their teamwork. But, then, Dick started canceling plans with me, to go hang out with Babs.

~flashback: last month~

"Where is he?" I thought pacing in front of the theatre. Me and Dick had planned to watch the movie, (Movie), and then go to the arcade together, just to hang out. I looked at my watch and saw the movie was about to start in 10 minutes. I took out my phone and called Dick. All I got was voicemail. "Hey, Dick? I hope you get this message, but I'm waiting at the theatre." I said and hung up.

"Should I just watch it myself?" I thought, really wanting to watch the movie, looking at the 2 tickets that I had bought.

I then heard a familiar laugh and looked up thinking Dick had arrived, but I saw him and Barbara. They were walking across the street to the arcade together. "...." I took out my phone and called Dick. I saw him check his phone, but the stick it back in his pocket, and I heard the familiar voicemail telling me he was busy and to call again.

"What do you mean it's sold out?!"

"Honey, I'm sorry, but there are no more tickets. I'm sorry." I turned to see it was a mother and her little boy. The boy was dressed as a character from (movie).

"Might as well put it to good use." I muttered and walked over to the 2. "Excuse me?" I asked and the mother looked up at me and smiled.

"May I help you?" she asked.

"Yes, well I couldn't help but notice that you can't get tickets to see (movie)?" I asked and the woman nodded.

"It seems they have sold out." she said sadly.

"Well, here." I smiled and gave her my tickets. "Something came up, so you can have these 2 tickets." I said and the lady thanked me and the little boy thanked me as well before running in with his mother so they don't miss the beginning.

~present~

And now, here we are, he's with a beautiful date and here I am, all alone, sitting on an empty table, with no date, and it was getting late as well. 

"Why are you here?" I jumped and turned to see it was my friend Alex. Behind her was her boyfriend Jake.

"What?" I asked.

"Why aren't you on the dance floor?" she asked sitting in front of me.

"I'll get some drinks babe." Jake said and left the 2 of us alone.

"Dick's with Babs." I said motion to the 2 of them with my head.

"Oh, I see. He didn't ask you huh?" he asked.
