Two weeks later
Evelyn's POV
"Rodriguez!" Coach yells so I look over and she motions me to come over
"Yeah coach? Something wrong? Did I mess up a pass?" I ask but she just chuckles and shakes her head
"There's some people I want you to meet come on let's go to my office" she says and I furrow my eyebrows but follow her "make them do sprints and do 8v8" coach tells the assistant coach as we leave
"Who am I meeting?" I ask
"You'll find out in a second" she says as we walk
"Am I in trouble? Is this because I got late to class because of work?" I ask with worry
"Stop panicking it's none of that now come in" we walk into her office
"Woah" I mumble
"Jill this is Evelyn and Evelyn this is Jill she's the U.S women's national team coach and she brought with her Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath and Ashlyn Harris"
"Hello nice to meet you" I say as I shake all their hands
"So Jill you want to tell Evelyn why you're here today" coach says and I look over to Jill who nods
"Well Evelyn the team and I came two weeks ago to see you play" Jill says
"Wait so when you guys were at the diner while I was working you guys were actually at my game just before?" I say and they nod
"That's right and I'm here to formally invite you to camp this month" Jill says and I just stand in shock
"What do you say?" Ashlyn asks me
"Yes of course I would love to! It would be an honor" I say and smile
"Well then I will tell your coach all the information and after that you're all good to go for this months camp" Jill says and I smile
"Wait you worked after the game!" Coach yells
"Oops?" I say and shrug
"We're talking about this later young lady" coach says
"Well I have to get back to practice it was very nice meeting you all" I say and walk towards the door
"Rodriguez get back here! You and I are not done talking" Coach yells and I cringe
"Ladies can you step out of the room please" Jill says and they nod
"It was really nice meeting you Evelyn we can't wait to see you at camp" Alex says
"Yes can't wait to see how you work with the team" Tobin says and I smile
The girls all leave outside while I'm stuck with Coach Johnson and Jill
"Evelyn your coach has told me about your family situation and that won't affect anything with us you're technically almost 18 and we will allow it" Jill says and I sigh in relief
"Oh yes thank god" I say
"But! You have to stop taking extra shifts especially after games!" Coach J yells
"I need the money coach! I mean sure I have enough but I still need money" I say
Alex's POV
"She looks like a bright smart girl" I say as we wait outside of the office
"She's definitely a mini you Al except she's not annoying like you" Tobin says
"Wow thanks babe"
"You know you love me" Tobin pecks my lips
"Okay just because Ali isn't here doesn't mean you guys can rub it in my face that I'm alone right now" Ash says
"Okay but what do you guys think about how her coach yelled at Evelyn for working after a game?" Tobin asks
"I mean she did work after a game that's not good" I say
"There's definitely something else though I mean come on you don't just get that mad so easily" Ash says
"Guess we'll just have to find out at camp" Tobin says
"That's if she tells us babe you don't know what goes on in her life" I say
"We also need her to get with Mal since little Mal has a crush on her" Ash says
"Again we don't know anything about her" I say
"You're no fun Alex" Ash says
"Hey I'm just saying the facts we don't know much about her but when she gets to camp we'll get to know her"
Evelyn's POV
"Can I get back to practice now?" I ask coach
"Yes you can go back" Coach J says and I nod
"It was nice meeting you Coach Ellis" I say and shake her hand
"Pleasure is all mine we can't wait for you to join us and show us what you can do" Jill says and I smile
"I'll see you back out there Coach J!" I yell and run out the office towards the field
"What happened? Were you in trouble?" Dani asks me
"Nope"
"Then?"
"You won't believe it if I told you" I say
"Well tell me then I'll see if I believe you or not E"
"Jill Ellis was in coach J's office and so was Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath and Ashlyn Harris! Jill invited me to camp! Dani I'm going to camp with the national team!" I yell and look into Dani's eyes
"I'm so proud of you E you deserve it" Dani hugs me as I feel my shirt get wet and I hear light sobs
"Why are you crying Dani?"
"Because you deserve it you've worked so hard for this opportunity and ever since you know the whole thing with your family you didn't let that stop you.. damn E I'm just proud of you" she says
"Thank you Dani" I say and hug her tight
"Don't forget me when you become famous" she lightly punches my arm
"How could I ever forget you"
"I don't know it could happen"
"Oh Dani never change" I kiss her head
"When's camp?" She asks me
"Next week" I say
"Behave over there E" Dani stares at me
"Yes mom" I say laughing but she punches me
"Ow fuck!" Dani yells "you have too much muscle stop benching"
"Nope" I say
"Be safe at camp"
"I will don't worry now let's get back to practicing"
