74. Paper towel

...Oh god Hange, please don't get any stupid ideas.....

Tired from the training, you strut back with Eren and Armin by your side.

"I can't, this is torture. The sun's going to kill us.", Eren panted.

Armin on the other hand, seemed more than just exhausted. He had it clearly even harder with the physical struggles you all had to go through.

You smiled mildly at him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, you did great today.", you resolutely said. He gave you a smile, trying to look as little worn-out as possible.
And you truly meant it. Armin always did his best, not wanting to be a burden for anyone. You respected him deeply for that.

Eren teasingly:
"You're getting complimented by a pretty girl and all you do is smile?"

An even redder tone flushed through Armin's cheeks than before, making you laugh softly.
"I-I thank y-you.", he whispered.

You giggled and glanced to Eren who blushed as well.
The three of you were a group of blushing teenagers, walking through the fields, which was a sight for itself.

"(Y/N)-", Eren set on to say, but was interrupted by Mikasa who rushed to get to the three of you. She positioned between Eren and you, before asking:
"Hey, are you three all right? I saw you leaving."

"Hm.", Eren responded.
"We told you we'd meet in the community room."

"Yes, but I got ready sooner.", she shortly stated.

Silence.

"He, Mikasa, I really liked you technique on the 3DMG today. Could you show me some other time?", you attempted to kill off the awkwardness.

"Hm. Maybe.", she replied, while looking forward, which kinda made you feel uncomfortable.

You had always thought she didn't like you in some form, but you never knew why exactly. Maybe you were the one who was destroying their bond of three best friends.

Immediately you felt bad about it.
I don't want to be any obstacle.

So you thought about what to do, while the four of you strolled away in continuous quietness.
Maybe she thinks I want to replace her?

That's why you just tried to give her a warm smile.
Slightly irritated, she turned her look away.

The four of you leaned against a pillar, while trying to find any way for time to pass quicker.

You slumped down to sit on the floor, which Eren emulated. Armin and Mikasa stood upright next to both of you, leaning their backs against the high stone-columns as well.

Calmly, all of you tried to enjoy the echoing noises, caused by footsteps, laughter and conversations of all kinds.

Eren languidly:
"I always wanna have free time, but when we do have enough of it, it gets boring."

You nodded slightly in agreement.
It was late afternoon already and all the recruits gathered from outside and their rooms. Some were in the community site, but the four of you wouldn't get in, because it was full already.

Finally, you heard Sasha and Conny strolling along, almost passing the column you were situated beside.
They laughed, while in contrast to that, there was Ymir, who looked as annoyed as she presumably could. She probably intentionally walked further behind, so nobody would associate her with the two jesters in front of her.

With a disinterested expression, she squeezed next to you.
"Move to the side.", she grumbled to the person next to you.
