Note: For those who are unfamiliar, Baek Jang-mi was Son Ye Jin's character in the movie Open City, where she was the head of a pickpocket gang in Osaka. I just recently found out and thought it would be interesting if she met Min Tae Gu. ☺️

"Time won't heeeeeaaaaal a broken hearted MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

Min Tae Gu drowned the last of his brandy as he sang the last few notes of the song currently playing on his laptop that was at a channel streaming karaoke songs.

"Where do broken hearts goooooooo!" He continued to the next song as he struggled to get up, head to the pantry and search for more alcohol.

He has woken up in the middle of the night and was unable to sleep, which meant his mind was again flooded with Ha Chae-yoon's beauty on her wedding day. The pain in his chest reminding him that he was not the one she married.

With tears threatening to escape, he went to the kitchen and found a bottle of brandy he had brought with him when he and Baek Jang-mi moved in. That day seemed a good time to open it and wallow in his misery.

Because he had been drinking alone, he pulled up his laptop and somehow ended up with karaoke videos. "The heartbreak playlist" was very appealing in his drunken stated and so he sang the saddest songs that came up. If he didn't know the song, he made up the tune.

"NEVER MIND! I'll find! Someone like YOUUUUUUUU!"

Baek Jang-mi cringed at the song Min Tae Gu was butchering currently. It was two in the freaking morning when she woke up to hear strange noises from their living room. Thinking Min Tae Gu was crying, she put on a robe and stepped out. He was crying alright, but she didn't expect that he was wailing, too.

"Baek Jang-mi! You're there! Do you wanna join?" He invited, suddenly happy having a companion. He raised his glass and took a sip but realized it was empty. "Oops! Wait. Let's see if we have some more, umm, what is this?"

Baek Jang-mi rolled her eyes. "Poison. You're drinking poison. You'll be dead soon."

Min Tae Gu laughed maniacally. "You're funny. But I do hope it's poison. It would save me from all this paaaaiiiinnnn!"

Sitting beside him at the couch, she asked, "If you die, and I'm your wife, does that mean I get all your money?"

Min Tae Gu wagged a finger at her. "Oh you're good. We're not married yet, though."

"Right. I have a few more days. So, you can't die yet," Baek Jang-mi replied. "I might pass out soon if you don't stop this horrible singing though."

"What?! I have a beautiful voice!"

Baek Jang-mi made a face. "Probably when you're not drunk."

Scooting closer to her, Min Tae Gu poked her nose. "Yaaaahhh, Jang-mi. Do you wiiiisssshhhh me to serenade youuuu?"

Baek Jang-mi recoiled. "Your breath smells like the sewer."

"Hahahahahaha!" He guffawed. Just as suddenly, he leaned back and stared at the ceiling. "She married someone else. Someone good. Someone law abiding. Good things really don't happen for people like us, don't they?"

"Speak for yourself!" Baek Jang-mi retorted. "My life is fantastic!"

In his drunken state, he turned to her and asked, "You lie. Your eyes are sad."

"Because I have to be this close to you at this ungodly hour and take in your horrible breath," she shot back.

Min Tae Gu scoffed. "Fine. If you're so happy... could you teach me? Because my heart feels pretty shitty right now."
