"You're working at the cafe tonight, yeah?" I ask Ayla while I wait for her to get her stuff out of her locker.

I lean my right side on the lockers next to Ayla's. I pick at my fingernails while I wait for her to answer back.

Ayla shuts her locker door, turns and faces me. "Yup. As soon as I get home, I'm gonna walk over there."

I just nod my head then bite the side of my nail because I have a freaking hangnail and I keep banging it on stuff. Ayla smacks my hand down and looks at me with a frown. "Hey! Stop that!" She demands.

"What, I have a stupid hangnail that I need to get rid of." I say and bring my hand back to my mouth.

Ayla and I start walking up the hallway. I finally get the hangnail out, I drop my hand and stuff them in my jean pockets. "So..." I say but trail off.

Ayla looks at me then looks straight ahead of us. She grabs my right forearm and squeezes it like she's nervous or something. We stop walking, I glance down at Ayla and follow the way she's looking. Kain's standing up ahead by the wall on the left, he has his back towards us and he's talking to a random girl. He suddenly looks back at us over his shoulder and him and Ayla lock eyes. They have an intense stare down.

Ayla never told me if anything happened between them but the vibe I'm getting from them, something definitely did. I noticed they've been avoiding each other all week. I tried to ask Ayla what happened between them but she'd always change the subject and tell me to leave it alone or give me a funny look. Plus, Kain has been more moody and angry than usual.

Last Sunday, I was at home and Ayla called me. She was crying and upset, she asked me to go pick her up. So I did. I picked her up at a fancy restaurant called 'Lake View'. It's one of the few high end restaurants in this town, it's a five star place. You can't get in without a reservation. Anyways, Ayla didn't say anything on the ride home. When I took her home, I walked her to the front door and gave her a tight hug, before she went into the house. We stood out on her front porch and just hugged, she cried while I held her tight.

I look back and forth between them then I wrap my arm around Ayla's shoulders and guide her through the hallway. We make it outside and to the bus stop. I wait until Ayla gets on the bus and finds a seat then I leave.

I walk in the locker room and go straight to my stall.

Kain is already at his stall and is half dressed. Which is strange since I'm usually the one that's always here before him. He's sitting back with his head leaning against the back of the stall, his eyes are closed, he has earphones in and both of his right leg is bouncing up and down at a rapid pace. He stays like that for a while.

I lean to my right and whisper to Luke. "Psst. Hey, Luke."

Luke just straps on his shoulder pads then he looks at me. "What's up?"
