TW: Children being not very smart, bullying.
Specs had been wearing glasses since he was young and he and his friend thought shining a torch directly into his eyes would be a fun and not dangerous idea. It was neither fun nor not dangerous and left him needing glasses.
The incident than led to people assuming he was a nerd, and so he was bullied for it. Granted he was a nerd, just less of a book-smart nerd and more so a movie and book nerd.
He sat comfortably at the bottom of the social ladder at his school with his one friend, who was reasonably popular but still hung out with him.
He had tried wearing contacts but was too squeamish and could not put his fingers anywhere near his eyes. After trying for a while he decided he'd rather the rubbing at the back of his ears than have to put hands near his eyes.
He hoped that in this boarding school the people were nicer than what they were in his current school. Or that there was people with glasses there too. Unfortunately for him, he would turn out to be thoroughly disappointed on his latter hope but fortunately he was correct on the former, for the most part.
