Y/N knew it was inevitable to meet a certain someone. He didn't actively avoid Lance nor did he despise him for something childish and petty, like distrust in a relationship.

But he was more active than ever after a few weeks, his prospect inspection had ended with flying colors, albeit dull and micro polished.

He was now a full fledge member of the militia, a recruit. His words had little sway over major decisions and his presence could never measure up to someone like April.

But what he was, was a confident and outgoing man, often voicing his emotion with a wide grin and unstoppable gait.

Y/N stood at his side, or rather, Lance stood at his. He gave the much larger man a long once over, like he was looking over competition.

Like Tai... but smaller.

Y/N ignored his gaze with indifference as he waited outside of the farmers market, he awaited Sable's return for another long lesson of magic.

"You're him, eh?" The recruit muttered, his eye narrowed in a challenging manner.

It wasn't the first time Y/N was in a situation like this, he had more than a couple run ins with people of Lance's caliber.

They were of the same tree, one apple that barely shined different from the rest. Except Taiyang, he was a special case.

What would you do if you were in my position, Tai?

He had no doubt Taiyang would wipe the floor with anyone who even looked at Summer wrong. Let alone being persistent despite many let downs.

Y/N found the situation bland and uninteresting, Lance was practically a young pup pawing and growling at an older and wiser dog. It just didn't register with the Hunter as a threat.

With the ring of an overhead doorbell Sable came strolling out of the market.

"Let's go." She sighed without a pause in her movement.

Leaning on a nearby support beam for the overhanging shade, Lance flicked his head up with a smile to Sable.

"Hey..."

Without even a glance in his direction, Sable addressed the younger man with a harsh tone. "Piss off."

His lips twitching as he tried to stifle a laugh, Y/N masked his amusement with a clear of his throat.

"Yes ma'am." He respectfully replied and followed.

Lance ran up to the two with an urgent stride. "I see you two together all the time, what's your deal with Sangria??"

Y/N asked himself the same question. He knew he had feelings for the Ex-Ranger but neither had actually confirmed a relationship status.

Y/N left the young man in the dark after the question came and left. He was very much over it all at this point.

I'm too old for this...

The Hunter wasn't sure of his exact birthday, it was another secret lost in time. He figured he would ask Fria or Ozpin the next time he saw them.

Rather than leaving a mark of intimidation on the man, Lance left Y/N feeling more tired than usual. The thoughts that dwelled within him had him slightly demoralized.

Sitting beside the same dry wash and two stones was the teacher-student pair. It had grown to be the main staging ground favored by both.
