Emptiness. That's all Y/N felt at the moment when he stared blankly at his apartment.

All his personal and prized possessions were contained within one bag slung over his back; the rest, such as his old weapon selected clothing, and furniture, were sold, donated, and thrown away. He had no use for them anymore.

He needed to leave it all behind, the memories and connection he had with them; he needed to start anew.

Saying his farewells to the past, he shut the door and turned in his keys. Stepping out of the complex, he sat on a small staircase in wait.

He watched as thriving life walked and drove past, all making their way in life.

Y/N adored it, the life. Death was an all too familiar subject to him; it was refreshing to see its absolute absence.

He almost turned to his side, expecting someone to be there, a beloved friend, a lover, an acquaintance, anyone. But alas, they were all gone.

He mindlessly pinched his necklace; finding mild comfort in its cold touch, he was disturbed by a voice.

"Didn't know you were so eager to leave."

Y/N cracked a smile; with a shake of his head, he stood to greet Qrow. "It's just an apartment, nothing important."

Yet, as he said that, Qrow eyed the rings dangling by a chain around Y/N's neck. He still treasured some things in the world, it seemed to him.

They walked together, sharing the moment in silence. Qrow watched him at the corner of his eyes with curiosity; he couldn't quite pin it down, but Y/N looked somewhat happy to be outside. Or rather, to leave everything behind.

"If you don't mind..." Qrow gave him his full attention, listening intently; Y/N continued. "I'd like to visit Beacon first."

Qrow nodded in understanding; it was best not to push the subject any further.

Y/N stood before all its glory. Beacon, a place he was nearly akin to calling home.

His mind was clouded; thoughts raced through his head. It was just a short walk, several minutes, and barely any effort to do so.

All to see Glynda and possibly make amends with his past actions that seemed to be a lifetime ago.

No.

Mentally berating himself, Y/N turned away from the prestigious school and turned to the ocean. A resting place of a friend long since passed.

Qrow watched from a distance; leaning against one of the many pillars in front of Beacon, he patiently waited.

"What... what is he doing here??"

Qrow lowered his gaze to the field of grass leading to his friend; the sound of Glynda's unusually soft voice told him enough of the rough road they shared.

Qrow responded simply with a quiet sigh. "Paying his respects."

He considered telling her Y/N's plan; she could be the only one to sway his judgment and possibly change his course entirely.

Qrow worried for his friend, and what Y/N told him yesterday couldn't be translated as a way of saying he's going to get ahold of life.

He hadn't changed as much as Qrow had hoped; if anything, he was doing worse. It wasn't the fact that Y/N didn't fear death; it was the thought that he welcomed it so casually.

But in the end, his love for his friend outweighed his wishes.

"He's going back out there."

Glynda listened as she stared at the distant figure with open sadness, uncaring if a passing student saw her in such a state.
