Kalim's POV

I am awake yet when I heard a knock on my door. Turns out, it was Jade Leech and he's asking me to tour him around a bit more. Of course, I agree eventually. Whoever are friends of Jamil and (N/N)-chan are also friends of mine! Ah ha ha~!

Anyways, I'm walking besides Jade in the empty hallways. Although I knew Jamil will scold me for not to get enough rest, I'm still willing to help my guests stay in here in comfort for the rest of the winter outside. Besides, it must be because I'm not paying attention to their dislikes and likes that made (N/N)-chan running off to Octavinelle... is what I heard from Jamil.

"I'm so sorry, Kalim-san. I didn't think you'd already be going to bed. We could save this for tomorrow. It was selfish of me to get you up to see the Treasure Vault again..." He apologizes again for the million times already and I just chuckles a bit.

"No worries, no worries! I don't mind at all! What did you wanna see?" I also reassure him, waving him a bit and asking when Jade hums in thought.

"I'm very curious about the tapestries and carpets you had stored at the back..." He answers and I just looking up to him, confused a bit.

"We don't really have any textiles quite like those in the ocean. So I'm interested in learning more about the culture of the Land of Hot Sands. A dry world covered in sand is the exact opposite of the bottom of the sea." He admits and I eventually understand when I smiles.

"Aah! I think I have a carpet that would suit the colors in Octavinelle. It's going to waste in the storage room. You want it?" I suggests and we stopped a bit when he gives me a surprised look.

"Would that be alright?!" Jade asks me again and seemingly surprised before I nodded at him, still smiling.

"Of course! We're here." I reassure him again and we've finally stopped at my Treasure Vault moments later.

By the time we've finally arriving at its doorsteps, he helps me a bit with the pushing this heavy doors and I thank him gratefully.

~🌸~

Then I push the doors widely for us and switching the lights up. From that, we're blinded a bit by those gold and jewelries when the lights from the ceilings hit them. Just then, I couldn't help but slightly chuckling upon seeing Jade's awestruck look at the surroundings.

"Ahh...~ It's beautiful. Being able to see it up close like this is wonderful." He reacts in awe before Jade went disappears from besides me, leaving me shock.

"Kalim-san! What is this peacock green material? It's striking." Jade exclaims, turning to me and back at the woven silk he grabs gently with awe again.

"That's woven from silk. A really long time ago, the law that only royalty could marry royalty was amended and a certain princess who married a peasant from the slums wore that color. That's a color that is really popular with men and women." I explain and he turns to me again, in awe.

"How wonderful! The little mermaid who captivated by the human world would be absolutely fascinated by all of this. Security must be difficult to manage." He said and I just chuckles at him, awkwardly.

"Jamil takes care of that. He even airs out all the carpets and scrolls." I confesses while scratching behind my head and he looked at me, smiling thinly.

"What a skilled aide you have~ He even earned Azul's praise." Jade compliments and I totally agreed when I chuckles again.

"I know, right?! He's so amazing. He also spends his time helping me with magic and school. The way he teaches is better than any of my tutors. Oh yeah! He's a really good dancer too! He doesn't really dance with others around though..." I admits too while sheepishly scratching my cheek a bit and he smiles soften.

"You have such a high opinion of him, so I wonder why he hasn't mentioned anything to you." He added and I was taken aback by that, surprised and confused.

"Forcing your residents to give up their vacation to stay here and endure strict training everyday... That's something I really can't picture you doing." Jade added too, turning slightly serious and I felt like being cornered.

"Ummm... You know... It's because we need it, I guess...?" I admits sheepishly and fidgeting while he gave me another look.

"Wasn't it your decision? Why does that sound like a question?" He asks and I panic a bit, since that's must been what I have forgotten.

"Yeah, you're right. That was supposed to be my decision but, I've been spacing out a lot recently..." I ended up trailing off and Jade asks me curiously why.

"Jamil says it's probably exhaustion from being a Dorm Leader as a sophomore." I admit again and Jade look at me, confused and musing.

"I've always has a bad habit of falling asleep during hard conversations. My tutors and Jamil used to get really pissed when I did that." I confess again, felt guilty about burdening others with my incompetence.

"What was it about?" He asks me again and I felt like I'm about to cry, but though I shouldn't.

"About taking responsibility, and figuring out how to come back from our Magift loss and Final Exam scores... There was so much to think about that I just drifted off. Haha...~ I'm a useless Dorm Leader." I admit sadly and look away, feeling the same heavy feeling eating me alive from inside.

Although I admit I'm glad Jamil is still staying by my side this far, I felt like I've burdening him with my constant dependence on him. Though I already knew that he's catering a lot on his plate, he keeps going on and sometimes ignoring me.

"Was this winter vacation training camp not your idea?" He asks me again and I suddenly look back to him, confused.

"Yeah, it was... I think." I answers sheepishly and scratching my head while he give me a look of suspiciousness.

"That is not an answer that inspires confidence. Ffhm..." Jade said again and I couldn't help but chuckling a bit again sheepishly.

Though while he's humming in thought with his fingers around his chin, it made think a bit more as well as to why he kept asking me about my bond with Jamil.

Just then as I am about to asks what is he talking about, Jade suddenly yelps and I also panics when while asking him what's wrong.

"I'm sorry, but it seems I've gotten something in my eye... Could you please take a look?" He replies and scratching underneath his eyes before I nodded.

"Sure. Bend down for a second... Which eye?" I said to him and he did as I say while I ask which is which.

"My left, look at my left eye..." He answers me and opens his eyes, and they're started glowing a bit dull and alluring.

"Yes... There's nothing to be afraid, I'm here to help you..." I heard him whispering to me and suddenly, I can feel myself stunned at my tracks before I'm drifting off again.
