Hearing this news, I started looking for Saber immediately. We had lost her while we were dancing and I suddenly spotted her thanks to everyone looking at her at the other side of the ballroom. She looked just as if not more surprised than everyone and almost choked on whatever she had in her mouth. I wanted to go to her but there were too many people and having heard her name, she now had to walk up to the princes. However she didn't move for so long that knights had to come to escort her up the stairs. Saber finally woke up and put down her plate before following them with a frown. She didn't seem happy at all.

I couldn't hear what was said up there and needed to stand on my tiptoes to get a better view. Seeing me all curious, Orange encircled my waist with her arm and pulled me closer to her to stabilize me.

"Do you hear what they are saying?"

It was a dumb question, us being very far from them but for some reason Orange nodded:

"Saber is telling them that there must be a misunderstanding.

-How can you hear that?

-I can read their lips.

-Oh... Makes sense. What else?

-The first prince is not saying anything. He doesn't seem to want to get married.

-Makes sense. He must be forced by Alastair. But then why did they choose Saber? Was it because he knew she was my friend? he really didn't want to break off our engagement.

-Alastair said that she was the only one who caught the first prince's intention.

-How?

-He didn't say."

I thought about it. Sverre never had a fiancé in the books and I never heard about the character of Saber. Wasn't it weird that someone so close to me was chosen as the first prince's fiancé? What was going on? I knew that the book had changed but how could it change so much? Could I not rely on anything I knew from now on? It felt liberating and terrifying at the same time. Was this my doing? Would Saber not have come to the ball if I didn't become her friend? Was this a good or a bad thing? Would this make the both of them happy or would this be a nightmare for them? Was Saber okay? I couldn't even try grasping the situation and seeing me all confused, Orange asked:

"Are you okay?

-Of course. But I am worried about Saber. We should talk to her."

Saber soon disappeared with the two princes and we had to wait an hour for her to reappear. I was starting to get very worried and even when Saber came back, she was soon attacked by hundreds of people who congratulated her or asked her about how long she had known the first prince. I jumped on Saber as soon as I could and dragged her to a quiet corner. Maybe she was really good at pretending but when she came back she was all smiles as usual. Just to be sure I asked if she was okay:

"Yes. Everything is fine.

-What happened back there?"

Saber started laughing:

"You must have been surprised right? I was too. I wasn't expecting this at all but it is all for the better.

-Is it?

-Yes. I was always in love with the first prince but never in my wildest dreams would I have hoped for us two to end up together."

I opened wide eyes:

"Were you in love with him? I didn't know."

Saber laughed again while scratching the back of her head:

"I thought it would be weird for me to talk about it. I mean, doesn't everyone dream of marrying a prince?"

I tilted my head. Did people dream of that? As if looking for an explanation, I turned to Orange but the latter was only staring at me with a smile. Did she even listen to what Saber had said? I had no idea but seeing me frown at her, Orange suddenly straightened thinking that she did something bad. I saw the panic on her face and realized that she still had her hand on my waist. I looked at it and Orange immediately let me go thinking that that was what was making me frown. I shook my head to make her understand but Orange just went paler than before and I laughed. This was the final strike and she stared at me completely bewildered. She was so cute that I couldn't help but rub her head.
