"What's up Amira?"

She turned on the heels of her high-top crismon red converse adding a raised brow and shot him a mean mug while she resumed strolling through the wide creamy coffee-coated hallways flooded with melanated people of various shades strolling past them on campus, their chatter filling the halls. While they stepped outside, the racket of the voices died down, replaced by the gentle chirping of birds and muffled chats. Their footsteps echoed on the pavement as they made their way towards another classroom, with Keven following behind her, a tsk emitted from the young male.

She rolled her eyes and quickened her pace, trying to lose him in the crowd. She didn't have time for him to flirt with her, especially not today. She had a midterm exam to study for and a paper to write before the end of the week.

But Keven liked a challenge. He caught up to her and walked beside her, flashing a charming smile that made her scoff at him. "Come on, don't be like that," he said, nudging her playfully. "I just wanted to say hi."

"Well, you said it," she replied harshly, still not looking at him. "Now, I've got class." she shot back, Keven sighed and fell back, but not before saying, "So you aren't happy to see me?"

It was no other than Keven, around the HBCU campus he was usually known for spitting his singing voice, and his sense of style, However, his reputation changed when he began dating her. Their on-again-off-again relationship was the talk of the campus.

She could feel his presence behind her, but she didn't bother to turn around, refusing to give him satisfaction. As they walked through the college students, she couldn't help but see the diversity of the people around them. It was refreshing to see so many different shades of brown gathered on one campus.

Keven's tsk snapped her out of her thoughts. She turned to face him and crossed her arms over her chest. "What do you want, Keven?" she asked, her voice laced with irritation.

He grinned at her, his deep brown eyes sparkling mischievously. "Just trying to lighten the mood, baby girl. You seem a little tense today." She rolled her eyes at him. "I'm fine. And don't call me baby girl."

He chuckled again and fell into step beside her. "So, have you heard about the new coffee shop that just opened up down the block? I heard they have the best lattes on campus."

She raised an eyebrow at him. "You drink lattes now?" He shrugged nonchalantly, "I'm expandin' my horizons."

"Well, let's grab a latte and take a break from it all."

She nodded, walking into the classroom. "Okay, Keven. After chemistry class."

Amira and Keven were seated at the campus table, causally drinking their lattes.

"So what do you want to talk about?" She asked him, looking into his eyes.

He lightly chuckled, "I want to be with you." Keven admitted, taking a sip of his latte.

"Keven, we've been through this before," she replied, her eyes locked onto his. "You know how complicated things can get between us."

He nodded, understanding the weight of their history. "I know, Amira. But things have changed. I've changed. I've had time to reflect on my past mistakes and I want to make things right."

"I appreciate your honesty, Keven," she replied, her voice softening. "But I need to know that this time will be different. I can't afford to go through the same heartbreak again."

Keven reached across the table, gently taking her hand in his. "I understand, Amira. And I promise you, this time will be different. I'm willing to put in the work, to prove to you that I've changed."

Amira looked into his eyes, searching for any signs of deception. But all she saw was sincerity and a desire to make amends. She took a deep breath, feeling a glimmer of hope blossoming in her.

"Okay, Keven," she finally said, her voice filled with cautious optimism. "Let's give it a shot. But we're taking things slow, and we're going to communicate openly and honestly with each other."

A smile spread across Keven's face, his eyes shining with gratitude. "I couldn't ask for anything more, Amira. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make this work."

Following their meeting at the college café, Amira reached out to Soloman, his brother, to arrange another date at the cinema.

Amira had been juggling Keven and Soloman simultaneously, engaging in several dates to gifts and jewelry, ever since reuniting with Keven. She was known for her playgirl ways.

"So you've been seeing me and my brother this entire time?"

Keven's voice was filled with disbelief as he stared at Amira, his eyes narrowing in confusion. Amira shifted uncomfortably in her seat, feeling the weight of guilt settle in her chest.

"I...I didn't plan for it to happen like this," she stammered, her voice trembling. "It just...happened."

Keven's face turned red with anger, his hands clenching into fists. "How could you do this to us, Amira? To me? To my brother?"

Tears welled up in Amira's eyes as she tried to find the right words to explain herself.

"I never meant to hurt either of you," she said, her voice trembling. "I was confused, lost. I thought I could figure things out by spending time with both of you."

Soloman, who had been silent throughout the conversation, finally spoke up."Amira, I thought we had something special. I thought you were different."

Amira's heart sank as she looked at Soloman, the pain in his eyes mirroring her own."Soloman, I never meant to lead you on," she said, her voice filled with regret. "I care about both of you, but I understand if you can't forgive me."

Keven stood up abruptly, his chair scraping against the floor. "I can't do this, Amira," he said, his voice filled with anger and hurt. "I can't be with someone who would betray us like this."

Amira watched as Keven stormed out of the campus main living room, his footsteps echoing in her ears. She turned to Soloman, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry, Soloman," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "I never wanted to hurt you."

Soloman looked at her,"I need some time to think, Amira," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know if I can trust you again."

With that, Soloman got up from the table and walked away, leaving Amira alone with her regrets. She sat there, her heart heavy with the consequences of her actions, realizing that she had lost both Keven and Soloman, the two people she cared about the most.

Amira made a promise to herself. She would learn from her mistakes, grow from them, and never again play with someone's heart. It was a painful lesson, but one that she knew she needed to learn in order to become a better person.

And as she left the dormitory, the weight of her actions still heavy on her shoulders, Amira vowed to never let her playgirl ways define her again. She would strive to be honest, loyal, and true to herself and others, no matter the cost.
