TRIAL DAY 4

WHAT RULES OUR HEARTS

Cold hands...

It was the only thing Vegas was thinking as he carefully watched Pete on the ventilator in the intensive care unit. His injuries were so serious that during his transfer in the ambulance he lost a lot of blood, which caused his brain to not receive oxygen for a few minutes.

It was not yet known if the damage was permanent so everyone had to wait for him to wake up, if he ever woke up...

"Vegas," Macao said tenderly, holding his brother's shoulder, "You have to go eat something, you've been here all day without a break."

"I'm fine," Vegas said without letting go of Pete's hand.

"Come, you need to get some rest please, I'll stay with Pete," he told him with a tender smile.

"Okay," Vegas said, letting out a couple of tears, and after kissing Pete's hand, he walked out into the hallway.

What he never imagined when he left the room was finding Thankhun accompanied by little Venice.

"Vegas?," said the little boy, looking at him with his little eyes full of tears, "Is Pete going to be okay?"

But Vegas didn't answer him and continued walking down the hallway in silence. An expression of annoyance was clearly visible on his face as he saw the child in front of him. Maybe it was because the little boy still reminded him of the pain he felt over the death of his mother.

Why didn't she tell him anything about Venice? Did his mother not trust him enough?

Vegas remembered seeing her crying inconsolably on the bed when her father prevented her from leaving the house after her return. She didn't eat anything and at night she stood impassively in front of the window looking into the distance. While he remembered those memories, Vegas realized that during those last days his mother had been crying for the little boy she lost, without caring about the two children that she had in front of her.

If she died for Venice... Did she love him more?

His thoughts were childish, he knew that, but Vegas couldn't stop thinking about them since he felt as if his mother had abandoned him not only in body but also in spirit since if she decided to commit suicide after losing Venice, maybe... and only maybe...she didn't love Vegas and Macao enough.

"You look terrible," was what Thankun told him when he found him sitting in the cafeteria without touching the cup of coffee in front of him.

"What the hell do you want?" he asked angrily as he took a sip of the cold coffee.

"Our little brother is asking about you," he said as he looked at Vegas attentively.

"That boy is not my brother," Vegas said in anger.

"Well, the DNA test that Macao did proves otherwise," Thankun said with a sarcastic tone, catching Vegas off guard.

It was positive. The DNA test...

Venice was his brother and there was no longer any doubt. In those moments, anger completely invaded him and he said something that he did not mean, "That boy is not my brother and he never will be."

"A few days ago you loved that child very much, to the point of wanting to adopt him, but now you don't even look at him," Thankun said.

"Stop insisting on the boy," Vegas said and tried to stand up but Thankun grabbed his arm.
