"One... Two... Three!" Doctor Murphy counted. Biting down on my bottom lip, I pushed as hard as I could without screaming. "That was great! I need you to do it again." Doctor Murphy instructed. I sighed, looking over at the door. She counted to three; once again. I did another big push, still nothing. "I can't do it. I give up." I huffed in exhaustion. "Yes, you can! You're doing great!" Doctor Murphy encouraged. The door swung open.

Nurse Kayla walked into the room pushing Kross in a wheelchair. "Kross." I sobbed while she pushed him closer to my bedside. He stood up from the wheelchair, leaning over to kiss my lips repeatedly. "I'm so sorry this happened." He whispered.
"You're here now." I said, relieved. "Okay, Destiny. You ready to start pushing again?" Doctor Murphy questioned.

I looked up at Kross, who had the brightest smile on his face, putting me at complete ease.
"Yes." I nodded. She counted to three for the third time. Kross held my hand while giving me motivational tips to help me focus on getting our baby out. By the fourth push, the room was filled with cries of a baby... our baby. I looked down to see the nurses checking to make sure everything with the baby was alright.

I then looked up at Kross, who was staring in amazement. His eyes were slightly red from crying when he heard the healthy cries of our baby. "Congratulations!" One of the nurses smiled, handing me our son. "Oh, my god. He's even more handsome than I imagined." I said, holding on to his tiny hand. He stared dead at me, as if he knew I'm his mommy. If I wasn't in love before, I certainly am now.

"Hey, little man!" Kross cooed, swatting the tears from his eyes. "We weren't expecting you so early, but I guess you work on your own time, huh?" He laughed. "We have a son!" Tears filled my eyes. A range of different emotions ran through me. I was still in disbelief but yet, amazed. "We do. He's the cutest fella ever." Kross smiled, planting a kiss on my forehead. "You did amazing, baby! I love you." He spoke into my ear. "I love you more." I sniffled, trying not to get emotional.

After the nurses got the baby and I cleaned up, they moved us to a more private room. I learned to breastfeed while doing skin to skin. I knew I was going to be in love with this little boy, but the feeling is truly indescribable now that he's actually here. It all feels so... surreal. Kross sat in the chair beside the bed, holding our son as he laid on his bare chest. He looks in love, at peace. Sharing this with him means a lot, honestly.

I know Kross will be the best father possible, you can see the love he has for our son in his eyes. I mean, here he is, doing skin to skin after getting out of surgery due to a gunshot. He is the true definition of "there should be no excuses when it comes to your child", and I respect him even more for that. It shows how much of a man he is. Light knocks at the door caused Kross to look up.

"That's probably my parents." He said. I smirked, taking the baby from his arms. He put his shirt back on despite the pain he was feeling in his arm. When he opened the door, his parents, close friends; my sisters Deedra and De'Lanice came walking into the room. They crowded around me, eager to know the gender and meet the baby. "Congratulations you two!" Giselle spoke in excitement. "Thank you." I smiled. From where they all stood, it was impossible to see the baby.

I waited for Kross to stand beside me before saying anything further. "I know you are all dying to know the gender." I laughed. "Yes!" Deedra said aloud. Kross chuckled. I looked up at him, nodding my head. "It's a boy!" He announced. "Yessirrr!" Chance cheered. "I knew it!" Lani exclaimed.
"Ooh, we have a grandson!" Giselle grew emotional. Jamal embraced his son in a hug, congratulating him. "What's his name?" Deedra asked. Kross looked down at me, grinning.

"Kaleb... Kaleb Noah Jackson." I shared our sons full name while looking down at Kaleb, who looked up at me with his mouth gapped open. My heart continued to flutter feeling a tiny human on my chest. "He's so adorable." Deedra cooed over Kaleb. "Thank you." I adored him some more.

"We've had his name picked out for months now." I admitted, "But we chose his middle name last minute. Noah means 'peaceful rest', and we know he'll add some piece to this crazy world. Isn't that right papa?" I kicked his tiny knuckles that were now wrapped around my index finger. Deedra found herself emotional watching her sister become a mom. "You're going to be a wonderful mother, Des." She stated, fanning her face to refrain from crying.

I thanked her for the heartfelt words then asked if she wanted to hold her nephew. She gladly accepted; quickly washing her hands and coming back to my bedside. I handed Kaleb off to her. He clung onto her finger, causing Deedra to smile uncontrollably. Everyone took turns holding him. It was nice to spend time with everyone— however, since it was going on four-thirty in the morning; Kross politely asked everyone to leave so we could get some rest. They understood that the baby and I, needed rest, and so did Kross due to his injuries. Everyone left after saying they're goodbyes.

While breastfeeding Kaleb, he drifted off into sleep. His tiny mouth still latched to my nipple made me laugh. Kross walked over, taking Kaleb from my arms. "You sure you got it? I mean, you look like you're in pain." I stated, watching him place our son into the hospital bassinet. "I'm fine." He whispered, tucking the baby in with one hand. He leaned down, kissing his cheek before walking back over to me.

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine." He said.
"Kross, you were shot at our baby shower, literally feet away. How can I not worry?" I scrunched up my face. "The only thing you need to worry about is our son and getting back on your feet." He got in the bed, cuddling up beside me. "Can you at least tell me who did this to you? You were shot at close freaking range, Kross! That person wanted you dead." I shook my head, having flashbacks of his body being carried out the door.

"Shhh." He calmed me, rubbing my thigh, "Don't get worked up. I got everything situated, baby." He spoke into my ear. As much as I wanted to believe that, I couldn't. Someone obviously wants him dead and I want to know why. "I don't want to lose you, KJ." I uttered. He held me tighter, "And you won't." He kissed the side of my face. We fell asleep just as the sun was beginning to rise.

This was one hell of a night.
