Neji x Fem Reader- Why?

Neji x Fem Reader!

You do not know what to do anymore. You feel empty. cold and alone- so alone. There is no sound, no movement- nothing. No-one was there. 

And you didn't understand.

You didn't understand why you couldn't find him. You couldn't find him anywhere.

What is going on? What is happening?

And so you ran, your eyes frantically searching for him- for some indication to his location, your breath coming in short, painful rasps as you ignored the blood that seeped through your hastily wrapped bandages. You ran, ignoring the mass of corpses strewn everywhere, obscuring the surrounding ground beneath the colour of blood. You ignored the cries of pain, the sobs of someone losing a loved one- you ignored them all. For you did not care.

Not until you found him.

A cluster of chakra caught your notice, causing you to spur yourself faster in desperation to reach them- to reach him. You tear through the remnants of the war, faster, faster- you have to go faster. You felt your lungs struggle and your muscles scream in protest at the excertion, but you didn't care.

You just wanted to be with him. You just wanted to know he was safe.

You slowed, drawing to a halt as you entered the sight of what had been the main battle of the war, your eyes restlessly looking for him. You felt your breath draw to a halt as the world descended into silence, your heart pounding painfully in your ears as your gaze landed on the sight of a corpse, a short distance away. Brown hair spread across the ground, a curtain on the skin that was pale and lifeless, the deep, crimson streaks of blood contrasting greatly with it. Pale lavendar eyes stared unseeingly into nothing, drained of the light they used to hold. The curse mark he despised so much was displayed upon his head, coverings gone as he lay there, unmoving.You stepped forward, your voice coming out weak and shaky as you spoke:

"Neji....?"

He didn't move. You moved, your legs slow and unresponding as you trembled, dragging yourself until you were near him, collapsing to your knees at his side, hollow as the severity of reality hit you full throttle.

Neji was dead. He was gone.

He would never smile again, his eyes lighting up with happiness that was rare to see. He would never give you that cocky smirk that he wore so often when teasing you. You would never feel him wrap his arms around you, holding you to him in a sign of comfort. You would never see the way his usually indiferent eyes would shimmer with love as he looked at you, his expression softening slightly with emotion.

Never.

You felt a lump forming in your throat as your sight blurred with tears, your arms wrapping around him as you placed his head in your lap. You felt your body wrack with sobs as the tears fell, landing on his forehead and giving the illusion that he was crying with you.

But he isn't. He will never cry again. And that made you cry harder, your forehead resting against his as you let out a scream of anguish, despair filling you as you clung to his lifeless form. You shook, curled up in a ball, not caring of the stares on your back as you whispered, despair patenting your voice as it shook with this unanswered question:

"Why did you have to die?"
