You sat watching your girlfriend as she sat across from you, folding an origami flower with skill that never failed to amaze you, a faint smile on your face. Neither of you spoke, quite happy with the comfortable silence that you shared, happy enough in each others company. You smiled, watching for a few moments more before turning back to the book that lay open in front of you, taking a sip of your [tea flavour] tea. You loved Konan, that would never change. You turned the page in your book and reached for your tea, only to find it was empty. You stood up, going to the kettle and pressing it to boil, as Konan spoke, her voice thoughtful as she spoke:

"[Name]."

You replied with a 'hmm' as you began to pour the water into your cup, not expecting what she said next:

"What do you think about having children?"

You jumped, surprised by the question, spilling the water over the side, which elicited a curse from you as you rushed to clean it up, your mind rushing over Konan's question.

Why was she asking? Did she want children? Did this mean she wanted to adopt? Or did she want artificial insemination?

Yes, of course she wanted children. She nevers asks questions without reason.

But did you want them? You had never really thought about it, believing it would never come up as you were both female. But, what would it be like to start a family with the one you love? To be able to raise your own children?

Did you want to?

Would you regret it if you didn't?

The presence of a hand on your shoulder jolted you out of your inner monologue, causing you to look up, to find a pair of amber eyes looking into your own [eye colour] ones. You opened and closed your mouth several times, before asking:

"Do you want children?"

She paused for a brief period of time, musing over her words, before replying:

"Yes, I do."

She wanted to have children. And though you were unsure, you trusted her with your life. You loved her. And if she wanted to have children, then you would try it.

For her, if nothing else.

You swallowed, your mouth dry as the doctor explained the process to you, your heart pounding wit nerves at the sheer realisation as to what was going to happen.

You were going to have a child inside of you. A child. A living, breathing child. Crap. You felt your hand tighten around Konans, not paying attention to it over the panic that suddenly overwhelmed you.

This was a child, that was going to live inside of you.

You felt her wrap her arms around you, pressing a kis to your forehead before pulling away, her face holding a reassuring smile:

"I will be here with you. I won't let anything happen to you."

You managed a slight smile, feeling the nerves ease slightly at her reassurance before you were taken to the operating room, determination welling up in you as it all became very real, very fast.

Well, there's no going back now.
