"You're up early," Harrison said through a yawn, finding me sitting at the kitchen table. I was glaring harshly at the book lying in front of me, the crisp cover taunting me. He gave me a strange look as he pulled two bowls down from the cabinet. "What did that poor book ever do to you?"

"Nothing yet," I mumbled, shoving it under a pile of papers and out of my sight. It was my own fault that I had put off reading Little Women until the last possible moment for my English class and now it was coming back to bite me in the butt. With only four days until my essay was due, I could feel the stress almost crushing me.

He put a bowl down in front of me and I began eating without even registering what kind of cereal it was. "I believe you're the one who said you could afford to put it off because you work well under pressure. Is that right?" He was smiling and I kicked the back of his leg on the way past.

"You aren't being very sensitive toward my feelings."

He rubbed his calf and scowled, sitting beside me with his own bowl. "Well, you aren't being very sensitive toward my leg." He unearthed the book from the pile and read the back as he ate, finally placing it back in front of me. "This sounds like a total snooze fest."

"Don't be mean! I thought it sounded cute!" He gave me a pointed look and I rolled my eyes. "I can still defend it even though it is currently bringing me more stress than I thought was humanly possible. Just the thought of having to read and analyze it is making my head hurt."

"Maybe if I read it to you it will relax you," he suggested, picking it up and reading the first paragraph. When he had finished, his nose was crinkled in disgust and I snatched it away from him. "Yeah, I was right. That will put you right to sleep."

I was determined, however, to try and have a good attitude about the whole situation because there really wasn't any other choice. The book needed to be read, the essay had to be written, and life would go on.

I settled on the couch and laid down, holding the book above my head. I had finished the first chapter when Harrison came to join me. He lifted my legs so he could sit down and began drumming his fingers on my ankle. "Boring, isn't it?"

"No actually, I was right. It's really cute," I replied, my eyes glued to the page. Harrison continued to talk but I couldn't pay attention as I began to read the next chapter, only stopping when he physically removed the book from my hands. "Sorry, what?"

"Kian and Jc want to know if we want to hang out?"

I wanted to hang out with them more than anything at the current moment but I really needed to get this book done and I had to shake my head. "You can go but I have to finish this."

"Just bring it along," Harrison suggested but I raised my eyebrows, making him laugh. "Actually no, the last thing you need would be distractions from the two of them. You don't care if I go?"

"Of course not. If you aren't here, I won't have any distractions," I teased, taking my book back from his hands and picking up where I had left off. I gave him a distracted goodbye, and before I knew it, I was transported to the world of the March's, barely even realizing that I had been in the same spot where Harrison left me when he came back.

"I can see you've got a lot accomplished today." I leaned my book towards him so he could see the progress and he smiled. "Well bookworm, I assume you have not taken a lunch break so I brought you some food." I nodded distractedly and he took my book for the second time today. "That means go eat it now."

"Fine," I sighed, wanting to snatch it back from him. I had barely looked up since he left and I found that the weather had changed at some point. "When did it start raining?"

He gave me an amused smile. "An hour ago maybe. You didn't notice until right now?"

"I've been a little busy," I replied, eating quickly so I could get back to the fictional world I had grown attached to. He frowned when I took my book from his hands and settled back into the dip that had formed in the couch from me sitting there for so long.

"So you're going to ignore me now?" I nodded distractedly and he gave a dramatic sigh. "I guess I'll just go take an hour-long shower and use up all the hot water so you have none later."

I waved him away with a smile. "Knock yourself out, I'll be here."

Now that I was conscious of the rain falling, I felt even cozier, but an even better idea hit me. I went into the bedroom and opened the closet, rooting through boxes until I found my hammock. There were two perfect trees under enough covering that I wouldn't get wet and I could relax outside.

I took a blanket with me and settled in again, keeping one foot on the ground so I could rock myself. I had just gotten to the best part when Harrison appeared beside me, his hair still damp. "Can I join you?"

"Really?"

"Yeah, I figure this is the only way I'm going to get to hang out with you tonight. Plus it looks really relaxing out here." He removed my blanket and put it around his own shoulders, carefully climbing onto the hammock and resting his head on my stomach. It was quiet for a minute as he got comfortable, then he looked up at me expectantly. "Okay, ready."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "Ready for what?"

"You're going to read to me. I don't care that I've already missed half of the story, I just want to listen to you." He closed his eyes and I began to read, stopping when I realized he was asleep.

My foot was still on the ground as I gently rocked us, combing my fingers through his hair every so often until I felt myself drifting off too.
